Re: Dare2Ride Aveo 1.5 LS 2006
Welcome to the site dare2ride!
Do you know what are the horsepower and torque ratings are for your 1.5L engine? I'd also love to see a pic of it.

Re: Dare2Ride Aveo 1.5 LS 2006
A Russian here... :D By the way, any idea what that is in HP and TQ?
-
Re: Dare2Ride Aveo 1.5 LS 2006
 not at all... I know absolutly nothing about the technical stuff... I just know how to drive it :D
-
Re: Dare2Ride Aveo 1.5 LS 2006
its about 83 hp, and 95 ft/lbs of torque.

Re: Dare2Ride Aveo 1.5 LS 2006
OK, you're up there:
http://www.aveoclub.net/phpBB3/style...cl-right-9.jpg
Including complimentary digital bird crap removal :)
Also just noticed you've got right hand drive. I drove RHD for a couple of months in the Cayman Islands ... I might have turned the wipers on instead of the turn signal a few times! (Am I making that up? What side of the wheel is the turn signal stalk on?)
Believe it or not, the thing I noticed most was how odd it was getting in to the passenger (left) side... I'd often sort of fall into the seat. After years of getting into the driver's side of LHD vehicles, you don't realize how you reach out and grab the steering wheel while sitting down. Without it (but subconsciously expecting it to be there in the getting-in process) made for a few comical entrances.

Hi, where did you find the black outline front/rear/ and sideview pics of the Aveo? I need to find the same for and 09' facelifted Aveo5. Thanks.

Oh, wow, that's quite a lot of HP cut off for just .1 liter... Most of Aveo's in Ukraine are also 1.5L, so they're running on quite a bit less horse power over there... :? And it was also odd for me to hear that they "lift" their aveos instead of lowering them... it's kind of a requirement for the road conditions over there...

Haha nice.. the turn signals on mine is on the left hand side...
I borrowed a mustang LHD from my uncle to "show off with" hehe and in my efforts to do so I accidently got in at the wrong side, and I was so embarrassed
how is it working the shift with your right hand?, as the mustang was auto

Re: Dare2Ride Aveo 1.5 LS 2006
Just noticed that spark plug wires come in at a 45 degree angle compared to ours... so there are more differences between engines besides .1L displacement difference...
-
Re: Dare2Ride Aveo 1.5 LS 2006
Yup, the 1.5 is a SOHC 8 valve engine I believe.
-
Re: Dare2Ride Aveo 1.5 LS 2006
gss you guys are killing me I don't have the faintest idea what you talking about...
SOHC 8 valve engine????... the website chevrolet.co.za says it has a DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder MPI????
why does the angle of the spark pugs make any difference?
-
Re: Dare2Ride Aveo 1.5 LS 2006
but I think they are lying about the DOHC part
-
Re: Dare2Ride Aveo 1.5 LS 2006
the engine you posted a picture of is a single cam engine, in fact the head is so small it has a snout going out to meet the timing belt.
the 45 degree angle of the spark plugs also shows me it is a 2 part head? the valve cover bolts to a cam carrier.
Interesting design, like something from russian auto makers.
The etecII (finally figure out its not a H) isjust a carry over name on your particular engine.

Re: Dare2Ride Aveo 1.5 LS 2006
HAHA nice russian chick are hot
Ya the car is not really fast or anything, but sure hell is comfortable and luxurious!!! but yet again its a big car with only a 1.5lt engine I cannot expect meriacles

You're right, the website does say that. And the angle of spark plugs doesn't make any difference, just noting that it is different. They're easier to change, looks like you wouldn't have to take the cover off to change your plugs like we do, that's all.

Re: Dare2Ride Aveo 1.5 LS 2006
Great stuff...
What is the basic upgrades that you can do to the engine to make it faster?
cone filter? Port and polish? Branches? Free flow?
-
Re: Dare2Ride Aveo 1.5 LS 2006
Cold air intake (especially if the climate is dry and you have little chance of standing water on the road), headers from xiaogary (cat-delete version if you have no emmisions testing), remove one of the resonators and change the restrictive muffler to a better-flowing one. Iridium spark plugs.
-
Re: Dare2Ride Aveo 1.5 LS 2006
in your case i would look into a 16v head swap ( i will presume you know what to investigate as far as what it will entail)..

nice... so I must try and get an aftermarket muffler?

I was talking more along the lines of removing the whole original setup and going with a straight pipe and a straight-through muffler at the end, maybe add a resonator in the middle to keep some of the noise out of the cabin. How strict are your emission laws over in SA?

well you can probably swap a head from a similar sized 16v version i think singapore has a 1.4 16v but i dont know what is available in you area. you will need to compare head gaskets to see it it will bolt to the block, and the manifolds throttle body at least. if you are not worried about the vvt, you could just keep running it off your stock wiring and ecu but adapting the old sensors and parts onto the new stuff. if you want to have it all, i would suggest getting it all and just swapping in the whole turnkey setup..
if this is something you are remotely interested in i can explain further.

Re: Dare2Ride Aveo 1.5 LS 2006
What's up Dare? Welcome to the site and enjoy the Aveo. Can't wait to see the upgrades that you plan on doing to it.

Re: Dare2Ride Aveo 1.5 LS 2006
Welcome! Im from joburg.
Ok just to clear a few things up for you guys.
In SA we have the 1.5l 8valve motor as in dare2rides car, we then got a later model with the 1.6l 16valve motor.
The 8valve motor is nearly identical to the opel corsa motors we have. We have 1.3l 8v turbo motors make 100kw on the wheels over here. There are guys who put a 16v head from a daewoo on the corsas so im sure it will work on the chev.
-
Re: Dare2Ride Aveo 1.5 LS 2006
Thank you for the clarification. So what's the power of the turboed engine in HP? I'm not very good with kw.
-
Re: Dare2Ride Aveo 1.5 LS 2006
Roughly: kW * 1.3 = HP
So, 130 hp.
-
Re: Dare2Ride Aveo 1.5 LS 2006
Is that the body style for the 07 as well? I have an 06 and its gen1 style with small grill. The 07's here look like yours....

Re: Dare2Ride Aveo 1.5 LS 2006
the stock intake manifold is a lot cooler too lol
