Hi there I'm new here from South Africa. just got my Aveo yesterday... looking foward to chat and share my experiences with you guys!

Do you know what are the horsepower and torque ratings are for your 1.5L engine? I'd also love to see a pic of it.

Bought My Aveo with only 82 000km on the clock...uhm is that low? and btw is any South Africans pn the forum.
A Russian here... :D By the way, any idea what that is in HP and TQ?
:oops: not at all... I know absolutly nothing about the technical stuff... I just know how to drive it :D
its about 83 hp, and 95 ft/lbs of torque.

Also just noticed you've got right hand drive. I drove RHD for a couple of months in the Cayman Islands ... I might have turned the wipers on instead of the turn signal a few times! (Am I making that up? What side of the wheel is the turn signal stalk on?)
Believe it or not, the thing I noticed most was how odd it was getting in to the passenger (left) side... I'd often sort of fall into the seat. After years of getting into the driver's side of LHD vehicles, you don't realize how you reach out and grab the steering wheel while sitting down. Without it (but subconsciously expecting it to be there in the getting-in process) made for a few comical entrances.
Hi, where did you find the black outline front/rear/ and sideview pics of the Aveo? I need to find the same for and 09' facelifted Aveo5. Thanks.
Oh, wow, that's quite a lot of HP cut off for just .1 liter... Most of Aveo's in Ukraine are also 1.5L, so they're running on quite a bit less horse power over there... :? And it was also odd for me to hear that they "lift" their aveos instead of lowering them... it's kind of a requirement for the road conditions over there...Quote:

Just noticed that spark plug wires come in at a 45 degree angle compared to ours... so there are more differences between engines besides .1L displacement difference... :shock:
Yup, the 1.5 is a SOHC 8 valve engine I believe.

the engine you posted a picture of is a single cam engine, in fact the head is so small it has a snout going out to meet the timing belt.
the 45 degree angle of the spark plugs also shows me it is a 2 part head? the valve cover bolts to a cam carrier.
Interesting design, like something from russian auto makers.
The etecII (finally figure out its not a H) isjust a carry over name on your particular engine.

Ya the car is not really fast or anything, but sure hell is comfortable and luxurious!!! but yet again its a big car with only a 1.5lt engine I cannot expect meriacles :roll:
You're right, the website does say that. And the angle of spark plugs doesn't make any difference, just noting that it is different. They're easier to change, looks like you wouldn't have to take the cover off to change your plugs like we do, that's all.Quote:

cone filter? Port and polish? Branches? Free flow?
Cold air intake (especially if the climate is dry and you have little chance of standing water on the road), headers from xiaogary (cat-delete version if you have no emmisions testing), remove one of the resonators and change the restrictive muffler to a better-flowing one. Iridium spark plugs.
in your case i would look into a 16v head swap ( i will presume you know what to investigate as far as what it will entail)..

Ok just to clear a few things up for you guys.
In SA we have the 1.5l 8valve motor as in dare2rides car, we then got a later model with the 1.6l 16valve motor.
The 8valve motor is nearly identical to the opel corsa motors we have. We have 1.3l 8v turbo motors make 100kw on the wheels over here. There are guys who put a 16v head from a daewoo on the corsas so im sure it will work on the chev.
Thank you for the clarification. So what's the power of the turboed engine in HP? I'm not very good with kw.
Roughly: kW * 1.3 = HP
So, 130 hp.
Is that the body style for the 07 as well? I have an 06 and its gen1 style with small grill. The 07's here look like yours....
the stock intake manifold is a lot cooler too lol
