Exclamation Was given a 2007 Aveo5 LS Hatch in Excellent Condition with 141K on it....

Recently my little sister and her husband bought my parents 2001 lincoln. I was then given their 2007 Aveo5 LS as a gift. It has 141K miles, 5 speed manual and never smoked in or hot rodded. It's mechanically sound. All new brake pads, rotors and drums. They had the ABS light come on and they replaced all the brakes and the ABS still didn't go out. I pulled the car apart. Cleaned the ABS wheel sensors and VOILA !!! fixed. So, it'll cost me about $200 to tune up and get legal here in Missouri.

With nothing invested except for my sweat I got a pretty good deal. I am aware of a couple GM recalls with this model/year. I will get that taken care of once it's legal to drive.

When was the timing belt and water pump last done? If you can't find out, it would be best just to get a kit and do it now

I pulled the air intake box to remove the timing belt cover. It looked brand new. I saw no cracking in the belt or teeth. It also didn't look like the belt had walked any at all. Once I legalize her (tags, property tax, registration) I have to work on getting my Drivers License reinstated. That's when the fun begins.

Are there any special tools required to change the timing belt and water pump. I know how to access everything and how to remove it all and mark TDC. What size sockets and such.

Timing belt is easy to do once you follow the instruction on the forum. The cams are too close for a cam holder. I just use a C-clamp to hold them when I change the belt. There is a special tool for adjusting the water pump, I typically use a channel locks for that. Access that from the generator side. If you change the water pump, you have to pull off the cam sprockets. Break the nuts before you take off the belt.

Please do not power off, firmware update pending.....
