      Hello

My name is John. My wife and I bought our first Aveo an 08 LS hatch after renting one. The second one came along 3 years later. I purchased it as a total for a customer of mine. This car I drove home with 28,000 miles on it. Take heed Aveo's total easy with almost no damage. This car is loaded the same as our 08 with the exception of 15" wheels, fog lamps and a spoiler. The radio is different too as it does not have the tweeters like the 08. The customer reneged and the car became mine after rebuilding it. It's an 07 by the way. My son needed a car while going to school and decided he liked the 12 Sonic LTZ. At the time their were only 20% of the turbo models with the stick shift in the US. I found him one. He flew in and drove the car back to Texas were his school was. Whew, That's a lot about our Aveo/ Sonic family. Thanks for listening. John

What's the reason the Aveo gets deemed a total loss so easily?

The reason I said they total so easy is my 07 had 28,000 miles. I actually drove it home with no problems, you could not get in the passenger door though. The car needed a rear door, front door and a fender. The dogleg was slightly dented and the rocker panel had some scrapes as well. About the only "major" thing is the front hinge post was pushed in the bottom slightly. I replaced the front door, fender, and rear door. I had the post pulled out some and helped with the body work. I had the one side painted else ware. I got the front door and fender for $50.00 and the rear door for $30.00 at the local pick a part. If you guys can help me post pics I have the before and after pics. John

jstevens that sounds like a bigger hit, you have to keep in mind an insurance company would probably require a new uniside put on since the hinge area is a mounting point, as pulling the mounting point might not be an acceptable repair, also insurance does not use upullit yards for pricing parts. a 2007 with such low mileage might have been written to receive oem replacement parts at full retail cost. Frame labor around here can go up to $100-200 per hour. With a 1-2 set up, and a pull being a minimum of 2 hours. With the the labor rates and such two doors and fenders, I can easily see a sideswipe the was hard enough to cause pillar damage totaling the car as it is probably a $5000 dollar repair once everything is made correct.

Although I may not have had a uniside or parts from one, the pull was easy and a small one. Here a used uniside can be bought as a replacement part from a dismantling yard. As far as using OEM parts, technically I did use OEM parts for the doors, and fender as they were from another Aveo. I never had the opportunity to view the estimate so I can't really say what it was totaled for in dollars and cents. It just seemed a shame to total a car with only 28,000 miles on it. I am very picky and made sure every step was done to my high standers. After the repair, the car has no squeaks or rattles and acts just like the "new" one. My 2008.
