Hello everyone. The soaring cost of gas motivated me to look for a small car to beat around in instead of using my big Silverado for every errand I need to run. I purchased an 06 Aveo a week ago ago and stumbled upon this forum which I find very interesting. Having perused much of the forum for the last few days, I realize it is a car that might have some issues arising, most notably the timing belt thing. My 2006 has only 54000 kms, but I think due to it being 7 yrs old, I should probably replace the belt soon. I plan on doing that myself sometime this fall. My car is pretty much a stripper. When the sales lady showed me the car, I kinda laughed when she said "Well as for features, it does have turn signals". But I wanted something really basic so it's all good. I've noticed MPG figures reported in this forum ranging from mid 20s to high 30s and thought that seemed a bit low for such a small car. I ran a bit of a test on mine yesterday and over 250 miles of mainly highway driving, I got 44.48 MPG (that is Imperial/Canadian gallon) which works out to roughly 36.5 MPG US (I think). I guess that's not too bad. I am considering installing cruise control as I think it would help fuel economy. Mine is a 5 speed and I'm wondering how easy it would be to install cruise on a manual tranny car. I'm looking forward to getting to know many of the people on the forum and hopefully I will be able to be a help in the future once I get more familiar with this little rig. My name is Peter and I live near Roblin, Manitoba. Thanks for allowing me to join the group.
