      Introduction ...

Hey there. I purchased a new Aveo in March 2011. I love my little Aveo! I just passed 24000 miles. For three years prior to purchasing I didn't even own a car!

I'm just curious to know what "problems" I might expect to encounter as my little Aveo gets older? My previous car was a Saturn and wow I had problem after problem after problem with that car.

so far, I'm very happy with my car! and I think it's fun driving around town with one of the few vehicles that has the antenna on the top front of the car. lol.

Congrats on ur purchase. Problems to watch for depend on your year. The second gen 09-11 have alot less problems the prior years. I have an 09 and I have replaced all 3 O2 sensors, a valve cover gasket, and just recently a valve actuator for the exhaust cam. All in all I am very pleased with my car for the first 75 k miles. Also check the forum for TSBs- things u are to watch out for year by year.

If you have not had any issues in the last 3~ years then you should have a solid car, just keep up with regular maintenance and you should be fine.

Hi Ronna, and welcome to the forum. Most people only post when they have problems, so it's nice to respond to someone who has no problems.

My wife drives an '09 Aveo daily to her work. Our car now has about 24K miles. It is always garaged, which helps greatly in owning any car. After our first month with it the accelerator pedal assembly needed to be replaced under warranty. That part is entirely electronic. We knew there was something wrong because the automatic transmission appeared to be shifting erratically/sluggishly.

In the next year the indicator for the passenger seat airbag stopped working and the clock died completely. The clock was replaced under warranty and they fixed the airbag indicator. The clock now works, but only sporadically. It displays on and off, unpredictably.

The rear suspension squeaks/groans on uneven surfaces. IMHO the Aveo has a cheap, poorly designed suspension. I expect it will worsen over the years.

My wife loves the car. I like driving it. I wish it were better engineered by Chevy. But you get what you pay for.

It's a fun car to drive, and it's pretty reliable despite the small issues that go wrong with it. Could be better... could be worse.

      Jackie,

I don't speak corporate jargon, and Ronna might not understand the lingo either.

What's a "build sheet"? Is the abbreviation for it 'BS'? (Just wondering...)

A build sheet is a sheet that has all of the original options codes that were included when the vehicle was first purchased. For example it would tell you what type of radio was in the car, the date the car was built and a lot of other information that many owners find helpful. I apologize if I confused you. Most people who want one ask for it by name so I assumed that it was not just corporate jargon. I can send it to anyone that sends me their VIN.

She didn't "ask for it by name" or want it. She didn't ask for the BS sheet at all. She said she bought her Aveo NEW.

Therefore she already knows what all the options are on her car, either from the original GM paperwork given to her when she bought it, or from driving it.

In your posts to this forum it would be helpful if you could provide her (or us) with information that we don't already know. We already know what the corporate BS is.
