      New from Columbus Ohio

I've been a custom car and motorcycle builder for 30+ years. I was a vintage SAAB restorer for 20 years with over 200 completed projects, mostly Sonetts.

For the last 10 years I have been mostly involved with doing crazy stuff with the Suzuki Swift/ Geo Metro cars, with the convertibles being the point of my focus. I do my own work, build the suspension, brakes, body work, and build my own engines and engine management systems.

Here's my 1.0 liter turbocharged 3 cylinder vert. 21 psi boost, water to air intercooling, sequential multiport fuel injection, 2 1/2" 409 stainless steel exhaust. The car sits on H&R sport springs, Whiteline poly bushings, front and rear sway bars, 14" alloy rims, and runs 4 wheel disc brakes.

I'm new to the Aveo but the Daewoo engineering is very similar to the Suzuki iron I'm used to beating on. With your help I'll get up to speed in no time.

      because i can!

that lil' blue monster can flat stomp a 5 liter mustang and if i keep the boost under 7 psi i can get 50 mpg. it handles like it's on rails, too.

if i can get the aveo to be half as fast, i'll be good to go.

i was an electrical engineer for 30 years and after i left that profession i needed some serious engineering challenges just to maintain my sanity. designing and building a fast machine based on what most people conceptualize as a "throw away" car was a super 21 month project.

there's nothing about that car that doesn't make a pro-street builder smile. special grind cam with a lumpy idle, deep exhaust note, fully tuneable stand alone engine management that uses an acer 8.9" netbook as a supervisory computer, full instrumentation with 6 discrete gauges, 8 more virtual gauges on the laptop screen, 3 channel direct cop ignition, sequential multiport fuel injection with 3 460cc/min injectors from a turbo rotary mazda engine. hand fabricated aluminum and stainless parts, polished stainless steel rigid brake pipes with braided stainless flexible pipes. monster 4 wheel disc brakes.

Haha good reason. And I like your engine work, but I have a distaste for convertibles in general, nothing personal.

      Welcome, Dr Strangelove!

Cool to see another transplant from the Suzuki clone world over here. (There are a few.)

You know what's funny: I got 'vert a year or 2 ago that needs restoration. (It's just parked it for now -- too many freaking projects!) But when I went looking for pics of what I wanted it to look like, I'm pretty sure I found one of yours. Is this you?

Mine will be an economy-focused build, but with the nice look of yours: lowered, I've already got the same 7-spoke wheels, GT body kit.

FYI, there's a spiritual successor to the Geo Metro coming: Mitsubishi Mirage. ~1900 lbs, 1.2L 3-cyl, ~75hp. Don't know if it'll ever generate the following that the Suzukiclones did (it's not as good looking!), but Tim (Daox) and I have just started a new forum for that car too. Neat, I love oddball builds that are not everyone-and-their-mothers line of sameness. I imagine you have baffled a number of drivers on the street who though you were someone who just put on exhaust on the car.

What year Aveo did you get?

Side Note: Been to Columbus twice now, great city always felt welcomed there.
