      New to the forum

Hey guys. I just picked up a 2005 Aveo LT, 5 speed today. 96k miles, new cylinder head, and timing belt recently done. The Aveo will be my new daily driver as my Jeep (2008 GC, 5.7 liter HEMI, 4x4, lifted, etc) currently nets me 12.5mpg on average. Will be doing some small stuff to the Aveo to make it more commuter friendly.

U will be needing some type of air intake mod. It will help commuting become bearable. A lil pep in a small car goes a long way, and finally-welcome to the forum

First couple of things on the "do-to" are to
      -Register it (tmmw)
-Detail/Paint Correction (havnt seen so many swirl marks in paint before [I used to detail cars as a weekend gig])

What kind of intake would you recommend? Just a K&N drop in filter or a CAI? The power of this car is horrible; but then again I'm coming from a 350hp Jeep and my last manual car was a 400rwhp Trans Am.

      Just an update...

      -Got the car registered today
-Detailed the Aveo. I wish I took before and after pics because this thing came out looking fresh. Wash, clay bar, compound, polish, waxed, etc. Also sanded and polished the headlights back to new as well. I felt a lot of contaminants in the paint just rear of the front wheels and it took me a while to work that out with the clay bar. Overall, I spent about 5-6 hours on the exterior today and it made a large improvement; I could probably sell the car now for $1000 more than what I paid just yesterday. Next week I'll be focusing on the engine bay.

I went to the check cleanliness of the air filter to see if it needed to be replaced or not. I ended up tearing the intake tube at one of the baffles. A little duct tape for now until my just-ordered Chromeintakes short ram intake arrives.

what intake you do is irrelevant. You will feel no power difference in it. I would get K&N drop in just because it's basically a 0 maintenance filter.

The cold air intake is a good first step to a more fun commute. As for "oil on gauze" air filters, almost every dusted engine we see in the shop has one.
