      Wink New to the scene

Whats up everyone. My name is josh or (boon). I just got my 2006 aveo hatchback 5 speed last week. I got a killer deal on it at 130k miles for $2,500 up here in Michigan. I am wanting to do some basic and simple modifications but I have never done it before. Where do you guys recommend ordering your parts from that you have had the least amount of issues with? Also I have been reading posts about people removing their shift knob. Now will any after market shift knob fit or do you need a specific one? Thanks everyone and thanks in advance for every bit of advice I get from everyone.

Hey welcome to the scene! Post pics of your car! Personally I would not full around with the shift knob. I use local stores and RockAuto.com for parts. Before doing any mods, just make sure your car is mechanically sound.

      1) What is the status of the timing belt?
      2) Did you get a SVP (Special Value Purchase) or one of the upgraded Aveo?
      3) Do you have a smart phone and if yes, you should get a Bluetooth to ODBII reader.
      4) Are your shocks in good order?

I think I would at least need to get my springs replaced. I am going to take it to my mechanic to check everything out. From what I can tell, the timing chain is fine. I am trying to learn more about mechanics. ( I ended up getting my shifter knob off no problem) I have just the standard LS model, basic everything. what is ODBII reader?

The attachment did not come through. Try and edit that post and upload the picture again. ODB is a way of getting the diagnostic information from your car. In other words it's the check engine light. So read up on this from Wiki: On-board diagnostics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The timer chain is changed on strict intervals of 60K miles. Do you have documentation that has been changed? A 2005 would have two changes.

I do not have any documentation on it. I bought it off a lot that had a consignment on it with a dealer. I will have my mech check the belt for me when I have him do the rear brakes. ( I would change them if I knew how to do drum brakes)

Just your luck, I did a thread on rear brakes. Easy! http://www.aveoforum.com/forum/f94/h...es-pads-16262/

      How many miles on it?

at 130K more than likely you are due for a timing belt change. Unless your mechanic says otherwise.

from a few people I know in shops around here, they say with this car, as long as you are nice to it, it doesn't have to many extreme issues. So I will have timing belt, hubs, and struts checked and then do my basic tune ups.
