Just picked it up this week, had 0 on the odometer. My daughter and I liked it better than the cobalt, it seemed much quieter. Seems to have plenty of pep once I figured out the clutch. :wink:

She is ten so I bought it for me to drive for the next six years, the it will be for her to enjoy. It was important to me she help pick it out and that it is a manual, if you don't start on one you won't learn to. I drive 58 miles round trip to work and the s-10 was killing my wallet. once I figure out this clutch I'll be happy.

Nice wheels, I was thinking of putting winter tires on the stock and put some personal flair on in the summer.

Welcome, the problem you're having with the clutch is the "progessive shift" system. That and our accelerator pedals are drive-by-wire operation, so with those 2 things it does take a little getting used to but once you've got it dialed in you can really have fun driving the hell out of this car. Congrats on the buy and the new addition to your family. Any plans for mods to it, or just keeping it stock?

From what I understood by talking to the dealer - it's out of pocket to change the belt, If you're significantly below the 60k miles threshold, they might look into doing it for your covered by warranty. If you're even a few miles over (or close to 60k), they will do it, but it's going to be coming out of your pocket. As I was talking to them, there was a guy getting it done, and his bill was around $2300. Sounds like it would be worth it looking into the engine swap at that point. Not like fixing it at the dealer will extend your warranty or anything.
i figure it would cost you to change it, but if it were to break before 60k miles, i would assume they would fix everything under warrenty by reading the manual, seems like some of the crap in the booklet is misleading, not like i care anyways though, a timing belt change is simple, even an engine swap for another aveo engine is cheap enough
I think its not that comon for the belt to break before the 60k mark, yes it has happened a few times but i can count on my finger the people i know that this has happened to them. Mine broke at almost 75k on my 1.6L
Its just a good measure to change it at 50-55k just to be sure but its not an emergency as soon as you hit 50k
A salvaged 1.6L in good working condition with low mileage is about 5-600 bucks, better bang for your buck then trying to fix an engine that has bent valves and damaged pistons.
Ohh i noticed a nice thing today, my new 2.0L has 31000'ish kms on it and it just turns out the odometer on my car reads 131 xxx kms. Its going to be easy to keep track of the mileage of that engine lol. Im not sure if the 2.0 is as prone to the timing belt issue that the 1.6 has.
The TSB says anything below 60k miles is covered. Any respectable dealer would honor it.Quote:
