Hey everyone!
I am new to the forum and actually looking at my first car. The Aveo seems to be a good buy - decent incentives and the features I need for my first, basic car!
My question, would you guys recommend it?
Thanks!!

used, new?
its really the only car @ $10k new, comes with a warranty, has decent amount of style for the price, etc.
its reliability is about the same as any other car
its fairly cheap to repair if you know of someone who can work on it. (not all your typical gm techs).
its really about what you want, if you want to be like all the other boy racers buy a $3000 civic, and buy all the bolt on crap you can afford. Not many aftermarket parts are available.
what are you looking for in your first car?
Thanks for the reply!! I am looking new - the warranty is important for me. I am looking for a manual transmission, good fuel economy, and a great price.
It's my first car so I don't want to buy a $30,000 vehicle that I can't afford. I'd like to be under $15k and really around $13k would be awesome.
I am just trying to get some first hand opinions on your rides!
well i really like mine.
for me its because its the closest the to buying a "brand new" 1984 gti out there. might sound strange.
its been fun and keep me intrigued, while still fully functioning as a daily driver.
if you want the best deal for the price, search for a left over. NEW but unsold last years model. Or even a g3.
That's what I like to hear! I had heard some got terrible gas mileage - which sort of defeats the purpose, but after cruising the forums, it seems like they are pretty good gas sippers.
I have searched for any 2010s or even 2009s and either they don't exist or are starting at 18k...and that's a bit much!
well you could buy "used" with like 10k miles keeping the bumper to bumper till 36k (or 3 years from original sale) and still have the 100k powertrain..
example:
2009 Pontiac G3 - under 13,000 miles!
2009 pontiac g3
money savings, but incentives and interest rates might make payments versus new the same..
shop around, what options do you want etc.
I'd recommend the Aveo to anyone looking for an economic vehicle. With the price of gas at $4.00 where I live, I drive my whole family around in our '04 sedan as much as possible. That includes myself, wife and two kids age 10 and 11. There is plenty of room for all of us and I am 6'3". When I was doing a lot of highway driving (80-90% highway) I was getting 36-38 mpg. It has been reliable with about 74k miles so far. Only real issue has been the creaking suspension, I just ignore it.
If I have to dump the large "family" vehicle because of fuel prices and/or repair costs, I will look into getting another as our 2nd car. Although, I've seen used 2011 models with less than 20k miles priced at $16k near me. I think that's expensive for an Aveo.
I purchased mine new in Dec 2004 for $8500, but it is the bare bones SVM model. Only thing I wish I had was air conditioning. Our climate is not hot, but on long highway trips in the summer, having the windows open is brutal.
Overall, the Aveo is an economical, fun and easy car to drive.
Thank for the replies! I actually went out on Monday and got one - brought her home yesterday. Pics to follow soon. Thanks for the replies! I am looking forward to learning a lot here!
Here's my two cents:
I own two. A 2004 and a 2007. We got the special value models. They had zero options, AM/FM, manual everything.
The 04 we got for $9k out the door, and the 07 we got for $8.5k out the door, after tax/title, etc. The 07 was a left over from the previous model year, so that's why we got an even better deal on that.
I rallyX my 04. Been through 5 events so far, and haven't had a single reliability issue. I'm even on the original wheel bearings and rear axle bushings, not sure how others are breaking them.
I wouldn't pay over $10k for an Aveo, though. No matter what options it had.
