The Aveo's fuel efficiency has improved respectably since it launched as a 2004 model:
- In 2004 it was the least efficient car in its segment in the North American market based on the EPA "combined" rating.[/*:m:275ksiqc]
- For model year 2010 the car is mid-pack. On top of that, Aveo's power output has also increased slightly.[/*:m:275ksiqc]
- GM has stated that its goal for the next generation Aveo is "best in class" fuel economy (though they didn't specify whether they were talking "market class" or "EPA class").[/*:m:275ksiqc]

---[*] Note: for model year 2008 the EPA changed the way it determines fuel economy ratings, resulting in lower numbers to better reflect "real world" results. They went back and calculated the "new" MPG formula along with the "old" ratings for pre-2008 cars. Both the new and old are shown above.
