Yes, if you drive the same your mileage will increase a little... That said, you will like the sound of your car so for a little while you'll be delaying shifts just to hear the intake and exhaust and therefore your MPG will go down. Once you are used to it, the mileage will be better than it is now.

You know my brother liked that advice too about his pickup. Only he had a exhaust only on his truck.

      Re: Aveosam's MPG Thread

Okay, here's the deal.on the trip from Seattle, WA, to San Fran, CA.
From a full tank, I set the trip, and re-set every fill up.
Each fill up came at 1/2 tank (approx. 6-7 Gal.)
On the 5, with the cruise set at about 70 MPH, I was averaging about 37 - 38 MPG. Making it about 400 - 410 miles per tank.
Starting out with a full tank, and re-filling at 1/2 tank, I had to stop 3 times for gas ($28, $29, and $2 and had about 3/4 tank when I got to san Fran.

With the give or take, I figure about 21 gallons total bringing my hwy mileage to 38.

In the city, I don't fare so well. I only get about 26 - 28

All in all, pretty good test I figure. No real complaints.

      Re: Aveosam's MPG Thread

I've been trying to figure out my mileage for awhile now, and so far the results have varied greatly. My driving is a mix of city and highway driving, but mostly highway. I accelerate slowly, shift at exactly 2K RPM, and coast for long distances whenever possible. I will even coast with the engine off sometimes. So far my calculations have been: 36 MPG, 38 MPG and once I even reached 40 MPG. But lately it has dropped back down to 36 MPG and it won't go any higher. I haven't changed my driving at all, and I rarely use the A/C. What could be going on? Does it help to shift really soon, or is it best to "burn and coast"?

Maybe the gasoline is a summer blend now. I think they oxygenate the gas in the summer or something, that makes the mileage worse, but 36 really isn't anything to complain about.

i wouldnt be shifting at 2k rpms but rather 2.8-3.2k rpms because you dont want to bog down the motor.

+1 Best advice usually is to shift at peak torque. Can't remember what it is for our engines....somewhere around 3.4k sounds right.
I leased Pontiac Wave from September 2006 to August 2011.
