Covering the top grill didn't help anything. Looks like it is what it is. Thanks for all the help everyone.

What a sh*ty car. :P I'm not sure how GM stays in business.
So you are getting 40 MPG and have come here complaining about GM, and that this is a s***ty car?

Go complain about such things to GM. Or go complain on the Ecomodder list. As with most cars, you could cover your Aveo with coroplast, trying to improve aerodynamics, and it wouldn't make any difference. Aveo owners know that the Aveo is far from perfect. It's a cheap, econobox car. But it's not a POS either. It is what it is.

You might consider complaining to God about the wind in Manitoba. Or, you might consider moving to a less windy place...

I can get 40 if I drive between 80 and 90 kph. if i go the posted limit of 100km/h it drops to the low 30's (that's when its calm). seems pretty sh**ty to me. if there is a bit of head wind, gauranteed low 30's no matter what.

I'll stick with my original observation. Poor body design makes it a crappy car. Not sure how you can argue agaist that. Without good gas mileage, the car has nothing else.

I think it's more a gearing thing than an aerodynamic thing.

Your problem is not the car itself, it's the wind you are encountering. Any car is going to have reduced MPG under windy conditions.

At 65-70 MPH I get about 40 MPG. But that's in summer, with no wind. If you don't think 40 MPG is good gas mileage - well, do you really expect more than that?

I think it's more a gearing thing than an aerodynamic thing.
Absolutely. Especially in the lower gears, at speeds of under 45 MPH.

What's funny is that I drove my Saturn for 11 years and wind was never an issue. I drove that thing 105kph every day and it got 40MPG consistently. This car at 105kph, 30mpg (we're talking imperial gallons, not US).

You're missing my point about the 40mpg's that I was talking about. I have to go between 50 and 55 MPH to get that. At 70 MPH it would be less then 30 mpg (no wind, just normal driving). Are you saying that's good?

It looks like your car does better then mine.

My comment was regarding the overall gearing being too low for cruising speeds of 70 mph.

The biggest contributer to less than desirable fuel economy this time of year is the winter fuel blends, it just doesnt work as well as the summer blends, and wind does affect the aveo, way more so than other cars.
