my 2011 Aveo with 5sp manual trans and 48,000 miles would routinely get 36-38+ mpg. After replacing original tires with one size larger (195's - Michelin) my mielage has dropped to 32-33. My speedometer is also off by 2-3 mph. All driving conditions have remained the same (commute 75 miles daily hwy travel).
Only thing I need to check / replace may be the air filter.
Do you guys think this decrease in mileage is due to tires only or something else going on?
What you may not realize is that it not only affects your speedometer, it also affects your odometer. It also could be due to the design of that particular tire. Also, it may be colder weather than usual in your location.Quote:

thymeclock is right, the tires affect it, the cold weather (winter blend gas?) affect it. it could also be the that your due for spark plugs. i replace mine every 25k miles. you might be due approaching 50k..
larger tires also most likely means more weight, it is also a final ratio change which means harder acceleration. if you stop and go a lot then you are using more gas to more a larger diameter tire that weighs more than oem. however on the highway you might 5-6% off so every 100 miles you go could actually be 106. with @ 350 miles to a tank, you might actually be traveling 371.
but like thymeclock said, there is a lot that goes into it.
My 2011 Aveo5 LT came with directional tires that rode harsh and made the car pull to the right. Alignment and balancing was done and it kept pulling. I changed the already new tires with new Kumho Ecsta non directional tires and is a whole different car! Drives smooth, tracks straight, harshness is gone. What a difference different tires make on the same car!
I always get crappy MPGs on sub par winter gas, never fails...
