New G3 - Fuel Consumption
Hey y'all
I have a new G3 with almost 1000 miles. So far, I've been unable to get better than 19 mpg (US gallons) which is 3 mpg less that the mileage I was getting on the Lincoln LS that I traded in on it! The tailpipe is clean and there's no visible carbon cloud from the exhaust or smell of unburnt hydrocarbons. I've checked the odometer with a GPS and it's dead on.
Any suggestions?
Regards from Alabama
Re: New G3 - Fuel Consumption
how hard are you driving it? what octane are you using? what type of driving do you do? auto or manual?
how did you figure out the mpg for each car?
i get about 280-320 miles out of a tank and have to put 10-10.5 gallons in on a fill up. which translates to about 27-33 mpg, and this is dependent of how hoard i drive it, and how much city driving i do. I think my first couple of tanks were lower than my average now though.
Have you done the break in oil change? i know its not something that is recommended, but it is something i always do.
Re: New G3 - Fuel Consumption
Hey
Thanks for your reply. The car is an automatic and all of the driving has been in the city with the A/C on. However, I drive quite sedately and Birmingham has a lot of interstates and parkway roads running through it so it's not start and stop running. I will change the oil to Mobil 1 shortly, as I have it in all my cars and bikes. That might give the mileage a bit of a boost but surely not a 6-8 mpg improvement. My 3 liter Ford mini-van does 23 mpg, even heavily loaded.
BTW, I got a super deal on the G3 and I refused the clunker deal because I didn't want the low-mileage Lincoln to be destroyed. I only traded it in because we have a tight lane behind our place and my wife kept scraping the wall and knocking off the mirror ($526!!). The G3 can turn on a dime so it's terrific for her but this mileage is very troubling.

Re: New G3 - Fuel Consumption
i know the ac really make the fuel economy suffer on small engines, robs hp too. I dont know that that is your problem though, because i don't have AC in my car.
Re: New G3 - Fuel Consumption
I have a new G3 and the mileage is terrible too... but I drive the car hard. I have never actually kept track of the mileage. I will next time I fill up and see how it compares. I just put in a new Cold Air Intake so I don't know if that's going to make my mileage better or worse. -it's faster now... and louder.
Re: New G3 - Fuel Consumption
i have a new aveo with less than 2000 miles and im getting 400 miles to the tank.
top gear did a thing where they beat the crap out of a toyota prius and had a bmw m3 follow it from behind.
the prius got 17mpg
the bmw got 19.
the point is, just cause you drive an econobox doesnt mean that its going to get good gas mileage if you drive like mario andretti.
Re: New G3 - Fuel Consumption
top gear #-o
watch the top gear review of the aveo and see what i mean
Re: New G3 - Fuel Consumption
Top Gear reviewed the Aveo?? Guess I missed that episode.
I love that show - it's ridiculous. "If it's not English, it's crap!!" :D
