Re: Worse mileage with synthetic (and Bosch Platinum +4's)?

Another consideration is the electrode configuration and how the ignition system operates. Bosch does not recommend using Platinum +4 spark plugs in engines that have a distributorless "waste spark" ignition system. On these applications, two spark plugs that are opposite each other in the firing order share an ignition coil. The problem is that when one spark plug fires on its compression stroke, the other fires on the exhaust stroke, but with reverse polarity. This can cause metal to transfer from the side ground electrodes to the center platinum electrode, creating conditions that may lead to misfires.
Bosch also does not recommend Platinum +4 spark plugs for certain turbocharged and supercharged engines, or for performance engines boosted with nitrous oxide.

ORLY!!??? Seems like someone else said that exact thing here and related it to platinum plugs, hmmmmmmm.... Do you read at all?
read it again, he and i are actually saying the same thing.

You didn't say Bosch +4, you said platinum. You generalizing that all platinum plugs are the same as the junk Bosch +4 plugs is misinformation and misleading.
Get your story straight.....

Great thread feedback.
Just about as much useful information as you have provided in this and other threads as well.

Duh, read your own replies much...duh....

The wasted spark eventually fouls the plugs then all the thing northernaveo said occurs.
Where in there does it state anythign other than a generalization about platinum plugs. Thats's weird, I don't see any reference to Bosch +4's, only a generalized statement about platinum plugs.
Again, get your story straight.....

So does this apply to the Aveo? Meaning: is this the ignition system on an Aveo?

Regardless of the ignition system, people have been having huge problems with these plugs on any type of engine. It will cause the fuel economy loss.

It does.
And replace them with ngk plugs, even other platinum plugs have the small electrode tip compared to other types of plugs, and that is the failure point of the plug during waste spark. So why buy another set of plugs to give you the same problem.
Re: Worse mileage with synthetic (and Bosch Platinum +4's)?
Once again, respect and useful data.
Re: Worse mileage with synthetic (and Bosch Platinum +4's)?
Please try to keep things civil, guys.
(It's not a flame war by any stretch, but I'm just saying.)

Good point about the thread creep, Thymeclock. I'll move the Fram posts to a new thread.
