2012 Chevrolet Aveo videos, pictures & info from 2010 Paris auto show
The 2010 Paris auto show is on right now, and the 2012 production Aveo debuted yesterday (press preview event - we weren't invited  ). So we can expect to see more info, videos, photos & reviews coming out in the next few days. Post 'em here! (with links to the source)
EDIT: so far the best photo gallery I've found is on the Ukrainian site "InfoCar". See post 7 of this thread for more info.
EDIT EDIT: OK, Autoblog's gallery wins: http://www.autoblog.com/photos/paris-20 ... olet-aveo/

Here's the first vid with GM design exec Michael Simcoe describing some of the main details of the Orlando, Cruze 5-door, Aveo and Captiva. The look at the Aveo starts at about 1:30.
Only new thing I noticed is a fairly good sized air dam under the front end that hasn't appeared in any of the photos we've seen before.

The only new bit of info is the new car apparently has near segment best torsional rigidity - which should allow for better handling & suspension tuning, and fewer creaks & rattles.
Oh, and just to continue the confusion: the next gen car will be a 2011 model in Europe, 2012 in North America.

Some more info from the NY Times blog:
- Aveos produced for European markets will be assembled in Korea
[/*:m:25ylu3g7] - The Orion Assembly facility in Michigan will make both 4- and 5-door configurations for North America
[/*:m:25ylu3g7] - The addition of a diesel (for Europe only) will increase its market by 50%
[/*:m:25ylu3g7] - European price will be about the same as the existing car, 12,000 euros, ($15,500), "but diesel engines and other options will raise the average price."
[/*:m:25ylu3g7] - iPod jack standard[/*:m:25ylu3g7]

Re: 2012 Chevrolet Aveo videos, pictures & info from 2010 Paris auto show
And just to recap (nothing new - reposted from here), the European drivetrain menu:
Gasoline/petrol:
1.2 L @ 70 hp
1.2 L @ 86 hp
1.4 L @ 100 hp
1.6 L @ 115 hp
Diesel, featuring Start/Stop technology:
1.3 L @ 75 hp
1.3 L @ 95 hp
EDIT: the InfoCar.ua video shows a Chevy placard that says LPG will also be an optional fuel.
Transmissions:
manual 5- or 6-speed available depending on engine choice
automatic 6-speed available on the 1.4 / 1.6L engines

I want to know what they did to improve the torsional rigidity and the differences over the years

... and if GM had invited us to Paris, I would have asked them for you :)

Re: 2012 Chevrolet Aveo videos, pictures & info from 2010 Paris auto show
Am I reading right, the European market isn't getting the 1.4t? The 1.4 listed isn't the hp of the turbo engine.
I think that would hurt sales.
Re: 2012 Chevrolet Aveo videos, pictures & info from 2010 Paris auto show
I think you're reading it right - no turbo has been mentioned anywhere since the RS Concept.
For Europe, the addition of the diesel engines is probably more important from a sales perspective.

Do my eyes deceive me, or are there no exterior door handles to open the rear passenger doors? :?

Your eyes deceive you. They're "hidden" in the C-pillar:

I think they're waiting to unleash the 1.4T as an available SS model because they mentioned they're trying to position the Aveo as a hot hatch. A 115 HP 1.6L ain't gonna cut the mustard for that. As Jeremy Clarkson has said, The whole POINT of a hot hatch is to put 4 cylinder sportscar performance in a practical body.

Re: 2012 Chevrolet Aveo videos, pictures & info from 2010 Paris auto show
I agree for the same reasons, Z34. I'd bet it's just a matter of time before they announce the 1.4 turbo option.
But they have to save something for later.
The sedan will debut at one of the coming North American shows, and they'll let us know our powertrain options (if more than 1) for both cars then.
The true "hot hatch" might not be announced until even after that.
I'm looking forward to the LA show and/or Detroit. And somewhere, a Chevy marketer is smiling, because holding our interest by drawing things out is exactly what they want.

The wait could also be due to the intense Ford vs Chevy rivalry that they've had for years. I bet Chevy's waiting for Ford to release the Fiesta ST or RS to release the 1.4T Aveo SS so they know how much boost to add XD.

Trendy and frivolous design is not my cup of tea. :( IMHO it would have been nice if they had also eliminated the garish chrome door handles on the front doors.
