2012 Chevrolet Aveo/Sonic NCAP Frontal Impact (KNCAP) - YouTube

From an article on a South African site:

A 'most improved' award must go to the all-new SA-bound Chevrolet Aveo (which will be called Sonic on our market). Its predecessor made headlines with an abysmal struck-through two star adult occupant result. The new one, though, scored five stars and achieved good whiplash and adult occupant scores.

The car scored 95% for driver protection, 87% for child occupant & 54% for pedestrian impact.

This is cool - look how they test the Aveo's ESC (electronic stability control) system by automating the "swerve" for repeatability:

I wonder if they factored that into the 54% pedestrian rating. Don't want bystanders getting smacked by flying hubcaps.

Looking at that swerve test again... I wonder if ANY normal person would turn the wheel that fast. How realistic is that?

      guess im not normal.. haha.

i think that is the "preset" flip over an suv test, am i correct? i cant say about turning the wheel that fast, but the outside of the car shots "maneuvering" i have definitely seen accomplished.

Definite improvement. I was just watching the crash results for the aveo the other day actually. The offset frontal crash put the rear end of the aveo5 several feet into the air and it swung around by nearly 90 degrees. That is scary, who knows what you will fly into on a real road.

I also noted that the crumple zone is reduced by around 50% of what it used to be. The door would actually warp enough for limbs to slide out of during a front impact on the earlier models. And the Sedans frame no longer seems to bend, something very easily noted in the earlier model tests.

I might have to free up some money and invest in a sonic, If I can.
