Aveo production to cease at FSO, Warsaw Poland factory in Feb 2011

At the end of September at the Paris motor show will be presented a new version of the Chevrolet Aveo - a popular model of car that General Motors manufactured in South Korea. The current version of this car is produced also in the FSO. But the licensing agreement with GM expires in February next year, the Zeran and will not come a new version of the Aveo.

Sounds like GM's plans for investment in the plant were derailed by the global financial crisis. Chinese auto manufacturer Chery may end up in the facility...

I think Aveos for the US will be made here. As Darin has posted its a much more popular car overseas, so they likely have another plant or two making them.

With the projected productivity numbers of the us plant and the cheap us dollar. I would be pleasantly surprised if us production met world demand. It would be good for chevy, the us, etc.

Wonder what will happen unfortunately no Poland plant means no 2 door hatch.

Unless GM wises up and starts making 2door hatches here in the US. But if the US is really going to be the only plant making aveos it will really help the economy out.

Well, the Orion Assembly facility in Michigan apparently has capacity for 160k cars at full production, 2 shifts.

That's definitely not enough for global Aveo production, based on just the European sales stats.

Annual US + Euro sales average ~300,000 a year. Who knows what the actual global figures are.

So there will probably be another plant making some cars aswell. so will that mean the US will just be making most of the production cars?

I was under the assumption that they were going to retool the GM plant in Ohio that they shut down that used to make the Chevrolet Trail Blazer and the GMC Envoy.
