you should add 2009 for good measure :P
is that also "the end" of the aveo shown? I know more are on the lots, but there are no more being built correct? as korea is already making the "sonic"?
Yeah, 2009 was an interesting year. Added.
2011 model year is the end of the Aveo for North America, but sales will probably dribble on at least through the first part of 2012. The Sonic won't be on dealer lots until later this year, as far as I know.
I'm going to see if I can find any sales stats of the next gen Aveo (Sonic, here). It's already available in other parts of the world...
I contacted my local dealer and they advised the Sonic started production August 1st 2011 and it is being built in Orion Twp Michigan. I asked when the Sonic will be available at the showroom and they said "early October". I have to say....I am excited for the release!
The end is near!
September 2011 was the worst month of Aveo sales in the U.S. Evar! 1271 cars.
Also, apparently GM started selling Sonics in August (280 cars) and they sold 1426 in September, so that's probably having an influence.
Or maybe they timed production runs perfectly, and they're just running out of 2011 Aveos.
The writing is on the wall: 65 Aveos sold in October.
(See also: The end is near!!! Good luck finding a new Aveo for sale in North America now )
30 sold in November. Woohoo!!
What's interesting is that so far the Sonic's first few months of U.S. sales are lower than the Aveo's were when it was first introduced:
- Sonic: 4500 sold last month.
- Aveo: ~5-6k a month when it was introduced
Then again, the Aveo was primarily sold on its low, low price. Nissan Versa now wears that crown, and has the sales figures to prove it (regularly at/near the top of the subcompact charts).
Also, when the Aveo was first introduced in North America, there was much less competition in the segment. The Sonic is on a much more crowded field.
So, it's a bit of an apples to oranges situation. The numbers aren't really comparable.
I dont care who buys what! I cant get another new one than I'll buy a used one! "Sticks tongue out at the Nissan Versa!"
Missing our beloved 1st gen Aveos everyday!
Silence is golden. Duct tape is silver!!
04 Aveo (mine gone but never forgotten)
07 Aveo 5 (wifes car gone but never forgotten)
02 Suburban (Eats gas stations as snacks)
12 Cruze Eco 6MT (46mpg daily? Holy crap!)
12 Sonic 2LT (Wifeys new wheels)
Chevoo-1/2 Chevy, 1/2 Daewoo. I mean like WTF?
24 Aveos sold in the U.S. in December!
It'd be nice if I could find some Europe/Asia Aveo stats, but I don't think they release them on a regular schedule like in the US.
Anyway, they sold 5700 Sonics last month, which is decent. It'll be interesting to see if surpasses Aveo sales "peaks" when it was new in '04.
