Honda launches global recall of unfit Fits

Honda launches global recall of unfit Fits

      By Fred Meier, USA TODAY

Honda is recalling about 693,000 subcompacts sold worldwide under three nameplates -- including 2009-10 Fits sold in the U.S. -- for bad springs in the engine's valvetrain.

Honda says 97,201 of the Fits are in the U.S. The recall is to replace bad "lost motion springs" which are are compressed by rocker arms in normal engine use. The springs may bend or break over time, says Honda, resulting in abnormal engine noise and potentially causing engine damage or stalling.

No crashes or injuries have been reported related to this defect, Honda says.

      More here.

Great title! At least they are getting stuff done before there are injuries. Why do car makers (Ford Toyota) think they can get away with stuff and not admit they have a problem? Honda is doing the right thing here.

GF's sister just got the 3rd recall on her Ford Windstar yesterday. She has been driving a rental car since December for the second one. All of them can cause bad accidents. I don't know about the first, the second is a differential problem, and the newest is a bushing in the sub frame that can come loose. Way to go Ford.

Oh and on a side note, she still has the rental car, and Ford has paid more than $1600 on it already. Atleast they are taking care of her and the problem, but wow.

I will think of a better signature later.

windstar....sounds like an Aname name. The windstar and ford ranger share the same 3.0 motor. I have to give ford credit they have come a long way since the blowing up pinto days. 1600 bucks for a rental "way to go!" In my industry, I can't make mistakes in my programming. That can result in recalls in the 100s of thousands if not millions.

Those mini-vans (I drove a Astrovan professionally and not by choice) based on a truck frame and motor really had stability problems and not fun to drive. I am glad to see a blend of the station wagon and suv merge for a family car.
