      Recall of Aveo / Wave / G3 in Canada for daytime running light (DRL) module

      GM is recalling over 100,000 cars in Canada because of DRL problems.

      They include the 2004-2007 Chevrolet Aveo and G3/Wave.

      Transport Canada says:

      On certain vehicles, the Daytime Running Lamp (DRL) module may fail, causing one or more of the following conditions:

      • the DRLs may flicker but remain illuminated;
      • the DRL indicator in the instrument panel may flash;
      • the DRLs may remain illuminated after the vehicle is turned OFF;
      • the DRLs may cease to function and the DRL indicator in the instrument panel will turn OFF.

      A loss of DRL illumination could render the vehicle less visible to other motorists and pedestrians during daylight hours, which could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the DRL module, if the above condition exists, for a period of up to 10 years or 240,000 km from first vehicle registration.

      The recall doesn't apply in the U.S. because DRL's are not mandatory, as they are in Canada (source: GM recalling 100,000 cars in Canada | The Detroit News | detroitnews.com ).

      Sounds like more than a few of the members here have been having this problem:

      yes do need a high quality DRL system so the people on the sidewalk can see us coming when we have no power steering as a result of a complete loss of engine power...it's either this or bigger curbs and the DRL's were cheaper

      If I were you, I'd contact your dealer and/or GM. I'd be willing to bet that you could get a credit for that if you asked nicely & still have the paperwork.

      Does this apply to the Swift+ as well? I pointed this out to the dealer so obviously gonna get it fixed.

      I would think so. Must have the same parts.

      If they say "no", I'd contact Transport Canada and point out the oversight.

      well I found an identical posting for the Swift+, the dealer is 2 hours away but was quick to say your lights have to not work at all. So I cleared some of this with Suzuki and they stated it is the same issue as the Aveo, though they didnt know if it was the same part lol

      Bottom line is I am getting it done by Suzuki, though I wish they stop playing stupid, meaning the Aveo, Swift+ and Wave etc are the same car, just the badge on the car. It would be simple to get the GM dealer to do it but I know it is a Suzuki lol

      I actually just had this recall/warranty performed on my 2004 Aveo. I was in to get my fuel filler cap replaced (under warranty), and the service advisor pointed this one out. The indicator light would come on/go out intermittently. So a new DRL module for me. Cool!
