Review: 2010 Aveo - "is it as bad as everybody says?"
"No," according to Family Car Guide - GM has done a respectable job continually improving the Aveo since its 2004 launch, they say.

Fast forward a few years to 2010 and you can see that Chevy treated the Aveo to regular updates and touch ups in recent years to fix what was wrong at the beginning. Chevy must have added sound deadening because the engine sounds far more muted while the interior and exterior trims have been dressed up with better materials and chrome. It all definitely works together far more cohesively than the first Aveo
Interestingly, he raises the question that has been bouncing around the interwebs about the future of the name plate: will GM keep the Aveo badge, or dump it and start with a fresh name for the next gen car?

Admittedly in the next year or so there is a new sexy subcompact coming to Chevy bow-tie dealers that may or may not wear the Aveo badge. But unfortunately, the upcoming Aveo won’t share the current model’s rock bottom sticker price. That is the one feature that has really helped turn the Aveo into the best selling subcompact in this country.
Aside from these questions, they note that the base car can't be had with ABS and air, and that "qualifies the Aveo LS as a terrible alternative to a two year old used car."
Of course, you could install air yourself, but most new car buyers aren't up to that task.
Praise is given for the interior, cargo space and fuel economy (with the manual). On the other hand, he disses the shift quality as being "no pleasure to use and feels as sturdy as a bag of M&M’s."

With the price tag of A/C kit from the dealer at $1300+ and around $1000 from eBay, plus having to be mechanically enclined to say the least make it pretty much "not doable" for most of Aveo owners.
Re: Review: 2010 Aveo - "is it as bad as everybody says?"
when i bought my car the dealer offered me $1400 installed on the a/c.
i didnt want the added weight loss of hp at the time, or the extra $$. but with the 2 kids in the back i can't let them suffer when we hit traffic.

That's a good quote (probably gave it to you because you were buying it from him) when I asked them for a quote to get it installed on my car (I bought it from a private party) they said it would be around $1300 on parts and between $500 - 700 on labor (they charge $100/hr and they only had one mechanic that's done it once before, so didn't know how long it would take them). I decided against it at the time. And with 3 weeks of summer that we get here in Seattle, I'm not really worried about it. I have the HHR 2LT with A/C and every other option you can get to drive around the wife and two kids, this one is just my DD, so unless I get a cheaper option - I'm keeping it off. Plus, like you said, it's an added weight loss and hence HP... :D

i think the 09 aveo is more a/c ready than the older ones..

Very well could be. It sounds that way from your other posts in another thread I read earlier. What does dealer quote you on an A/C kit?
Re: Review: 2010 Aveo - "is it as bad as everybody says?"
On another note, 2010 is a good aveo IMO, but one of the main reasons why I picked 1st gen aveo over newer one (besides the obvious: half price) was the aftermarket support for them. I know that most of performance parts work on both generations, but as for the appearance - the second generation aveo still has a pretty poor market (maybe due to the lack of interest from general public). Its a pity, though understandable: most people buy them as cheap commuters. Maybe with Aveo RS things will turn around, but that could still leave current gen aveos hurting for aftermarket appearance mods.

i believe the kit portion of the quote was $900 ish for the 09.
