05 Aveo Shift stick loose!! (Automatic)

Hey guys i was wondering if anyone knows the cause of a loose shifter stick on an automatic. it just started getting loose a few days ago and now its pretty bad. Like if its on Park u can move the stick side to side when it used to be snug on "P", also does this while on drive too it just moves side to side like its not snug in place anymore. I was thinking the problem might be some kind of shift lever bushing or a bushing on the linkage but im not sure.... If anyone has an idea please let me know!!! Thanks

As long as it works, it should be fine. But, being loose while in Park could mean you'll be having the shift solenoid going out... not a HARD fix, and a $20 part at Rock Auto, but a problem nonetheless. I just went through this and replaced it on my own. I had to leave the fuse for the radio/clock out to get the key to come out.

Hey thanks for the reply vantwee, do u think the solenoid would make the shifts stick loose though? Because It seems to be just a bad bushing... but I don't know because I'm not Too good with transmission issues

I've had mine apart, any play from side to side, especially when in park, has something to do with the solenoid. It's hard for me to explain it, however. I may be wrong, as well, since my only experience is replacement of the solenoid due to it not releasing the key.

You may be right I'll probably take it to my local shop ask them to see if it's the solenoid thanks for your help
