      06 Aveo5 Shimmy

Hi all, been a while since I've been here, good to be back.

Lately when driving (06 Aveo5) I get a shimmy in the steering wheel when I take my foot off the throttle, happens at various speeds. When I press on the throttle, the shimmy goes away. Has this happened to anyone here in the forums, if so would you be able to give me ideas of what I should check to see what could be causing the problem.

      Thanks a million,

Any steering/suspension/brake/tire work done recently? If so take it back to the shop which did that work. If not, do the easiest and most obvious things first. Check the tire pressure, and make sure the lug nuts are all tight (around 80 ft lbs). If all of that is ok, jack up each wheel off the ground and using both hands for leverage, shake the wheel(s) side to side at 3/9 and 6/12 o'clock. There should be no play in any direction. If nothing turns up from those easy checks, check for any obviously loose suspension/steering/brake bolts/nuts. If none are loose, then rotate the tires. Start by swapping front-to-back, and test drive. If no change you could confirm it's not the tires/wheels by swapping left-to-right as well, but that's unlikely to change anything. If the shimmy is still there after doing all of those things, then there is one or more suspension/steering/brake problems which need to be fixed.

Never had this issue with my Aveo. However I use to have a Dodge Omni, it would shimmy when I let off the gas at highway speeds. Turned out to be bad cv axles.
