2004 aveo won't start
My Mother-in-law past away about 2 years ago. She owned a 2004 Chevy Aveo that has been sitting for that time. Put a new battery on it and tried to start it. Noticed the gas gauge showed empty. Put 5 gallons in it and it still shows empty. Not getting any fuel to throttle body. I can put fuel in the breather tube and it will start. My question is, is there a reset or something else that would cause the fuel pump and gas gauge not to work? The car was in the dry during the 2 years. Any help will be appreciated.

There's a good chance the 2 year old gas has gelled in the tank, and maybe some of the rest of the fuel system. If so, you're probably going to have to at least drop and clean the tank, and then try to send some fresh gas and fuel system cleaner through. Hopefully the lines aren't clogged so much that they can't be flushed clean :(

I doubt thats what has happened. I've started cars with 5 year old gas. My guess is your fuel pump or something is shot. Check fuses to the pump. If that checks out, I'd try to pull a fuel line and see if you're getting any fuel to the injectors.

While you are cranking the engine, have a helper pound on the fuel tank with a rubber mallet. The vibration will sometimes get a tired fuel pump to kick to life. The fact that the gauge is dead leads me to think that there is no power or ground to the fuel pump module. Check fuses and wiring for the pump. Around here, cars that sit often have wiring eaten by mice.

Thank all of you for your help. I have thought about the mouse thing, but was hoping there might be an easier fix. I will let you know what I find.
