Talking 2007 Aveo5 LS slight RPM jump and battery light flash

      Hi everyone,

I'm new to the site, so please bare with me!

Anyways, as of late I've noticed that every once in awhile when I am in traffic, with my foot on the break in drive, (automatic transmission) the RPM's will jump up slightly and the battery light on the dash will flash once or twice immediately afterwards. Any idea what the problem could be? There is just over 67,000 miles on the car and I have always taken good care of it with routine maintenance. I literally JUST had the timing belt, tensioner, bearing, waterpump, and serpintine belt changed. Could it be the alternator?

I'm still a rookie on the whole mechanic thing, but any advice would be awesome!

      Cheers!

      K

Was this same thing also happening before the work was done? If so, how long has it been happening?

It had actually started doing this before I had the belts changed. It doesn't seem to be doing it any more frequently. It has probably been going on for around 2 months now. It hasnt gotten any worse and doesnt happen every day but none the less it still happens. Any ideas? Thank you for responding

If you're thinking about getting into DIY auto work, then a multi-meter is an great tool to own. With a MM, you can check the battery, test how well the alt is charging, test for parasitic drain (although unlikely to be the cause of your current problem), and a whole bunch of other things as well. With a MM and a wiring diagram you can do a huge amount of problem diagnosis and resolution. Not saying your battery or alt is the problem here, but it's always a good thing to check first.
