2008 Aveo with 120,000 miles has P2135 code

I have two Aveo's. A 2005 with 150,000 miles which I gave to me son and a 2008 with 120,000 miles which I drive regularly. I drive a ton of miles and love these cars for the high gas mileage they get and both of my Aveo's are manual transmissions and get 42 mpg and some weeks I put around 800 miles on my 2008.
The issue I am having is at 60,000 miles the throttle body was replaced by the dealer which was covered, and now it has been coming on and off for the past 8,000 miles and the car had a slight hesitation at high speeds, so I took apart the throttle bottle and used a $2 can of throttle bottle cleaner and cleaned it up and the check engine went off and no more hesitation. Now I don't notice any hesitation anymore, but it seems to come and off with the same P2135 code. Kinda of a bummer if I have to replace the throttle body every 60,000 miles :( I plan on driving the car to 250,000 miles. Going to try cleaning it again. Anyone else have this issue?

did they give you reasoning?

the harness is a physical part that does not have moving parts, it wouldn't just stop working or wear out at 120k, so any wear or issues should be able to be seen.

what problems do you have?

There is a TSB out with GM that the harness can have bad terminal connections. here is the tsb # 09-06-04-016A. I had the 2135 code and the engine went into limp mode where you could only go 20MPH. it was like running on one cylinder. I had the code a second time after leaving the dealer and when i reset it with my scanguage it started running normal. this problem occured the day before i was having the timing belt done.

I would think you could check that. EVEN with a TSB, that does not make it wrong with your car.. just that there is enough of the issue that the factory has given directions for a possible repair. I would still think the fault for a harness would show multiple sensors showing fault randomly while replacing the sensor does not fix the issue. that code still doesn't sound like a harness to me, it sounds more like a sticking throttle body, which will also set a limp mode as to not accidentally over rev the engine.

I did not do anything up until now as the harness did not seem right. I now have 125K miles and i notice it only happens when the car is at a cold idle/. When I first go out and start in the AM. More like the Throttle Body ?

describe your symptoms. but with a cold idle issue i imagine it is stalling? i would suggest checking the temp sensor, you might not be in high idle. OR you might need an idle relearn.. It is only on initial start up if the problem goes away and the you restart the car, does it occur again? Might be the warm up system on the primary o2. Is there a CEL?

It is the same issue that I had above with the 2135 code. When I reset with my scanguage it clears and may redo for about a half mile a couple times. It does not stall, just limits rpm to about 700 RPM (limp mode) till CEL cleared. The rest of the day it is fine. The engine wiring harness is no longer the cause as suggested by the TSB initially

it will if something is rubbing against a part of the harness and rubs through enough to cause a short.

I do not think the harness is the issue in my case as it only happens at idle and when 1st started in the AM. The harness was the original thought by the dealer because of a TSB with the 2135 code for CEL

then it will show physical damage near a moving part OR show signs of it not being properly placed (like broken retaining clips).
IF the appearance of the harness has not changed, the harness does not wear with use. only outside forces.

(this may be a Long Shot) What about an Internal Defect in the Harness due to a mistake in production or Assembly?

Yes, I had this problem as well. at first I had "Limp". I would just drive about a 1/4 mile and the limp mode would Engage. I would have to shut down and restart for it to clear the limp mode. any how my thoughts where the computer was processing low air intake, restricted fuel, or bad electrical. Turns out the spark plugs was throwing a weak spark. That caused the check engine light to flash. Ultimately making the computer issued the "limp mode". I first changed the spark plugs from ngk (the stock plugs OEM) to basic ac delco's. that ultimately solved my problem. my next step would be the plug wires then to the ignition coil. had i replaced all three parts would have rounded about $150 for all ac delco components. Hope this helps

Well this 2135 code has come back again. It was good all summer but now that it is cooler up here in mass it has started to occure again. I am not sure but I wonder if the winter gas is out now and causing it. I still do not think it is the harness since it was good all summer. Any Ideas ? she has 161K miles now

I just started getting 2135 after no codes all summer since I had my cat converter replaced under the fed emissions warranty. I'm alos getting 2188 and 0172. Car seems to be running fine and is getting about 7 MPG more since the new cat. I'm running homemade seafoam thru every fill up as well.

The 2135 code came up last night nd then I ended up getting a 0303 code which is a number 3 misfire on my 2009 sedan with 163K miles. Dealer replaced the coil pack bar on top of the plugs and cleared the misfire. They are still leaning towards the harness for the 2135 code but symptoms dont convince me of that plus the cost

the 2135 code continues on my 2009 with 165K miles. started it this am and it came on a few times before lleaving the driveway. The dealer still wants to change the harness at my expense of about $700 for the harness plus the installation. Even if it is the problem I should not have to replace as there are supposed know issues with the harness by chevy. As I said when toyota bought my tacoma back for way more than I paid for it chevy or ford would not have done this. May be time to go back to toyota and get rid of this aveo. I dont feel a wiring harness is a normal wear an tear item.

Welcome to another cold midwest fall and the start of Aveo Codes. I'm starting to get 0302 and 0420. I haven't ran seafoam thru the vacuum in months, I think I'll let it soak for about 10 mins, then fire some more thru, etc. Fun times. Car doesn't appear to run rough. The idle is getting higher now that the weather is getting colder. Between 1000 and 1500 rpm on startup for a few seconds.
