I checked the valve lash on the Aveo on the weekend..GM was nice enough to provide me with the specs and they are as follows.
Intake 0.21-0.29mm nominal value of 0.25 on the exhaust side of things 0.27-0.35mm nominal value 0.30mm.
I have not determined yet if these are cold or hot ( most engines are checked hot ) I will post when I find out for sure. My intakes cold were 0.29,0.28,0.26,0.27 and my exhausts were 0.28,0.30,0.28,0.30 most cylinders were identical for the twin valve positions or off by 0.01mm only one cylinder had 0.03mm diff between the two same valves.
I also checked them hot and the exhausts increased by 0.08 and the intakes increased by 0.08 in any event I will adjust them in the spring when I change the timing belt.
I will save you the trouble of learning this the hard way, no you can't run it with the valve tappet cover off.....and no you can not see ANY of the VVT system if you remove the valve cover and yes you can reuse the valve tappet cover gasket..even with Amsoil I got it to seal, for all those inquiring minds out there, I will take the mystery out of those three questions.
