This for the response, better late than never.

I asked my dad why he didn't get a import instead, he told me he got it when Chevy was offering to trade in your clunker for a certain price. I told him "you just replaced your clunker with another clunker". lol. This was his first American car and give him the most problems in a short time from purchasing the car.

Something I have seen at my shop is there is a gear inside the transmission that can get damaged and cause the speed sensor to not read very well... The transmission can become contaminated with antifreeze from a failed transmission cooler.... Check to see if you have trans fluid in your coolant reservoir, if you do you may have this problem... Also I found this guy put a video on it.
