Oh oh. It shouldn't have been been getting that hot in my opinion. You may need to take it to a trusted mechanic. I have a bad feeling it's something more like a head gasket or water pump. I hope I'm wrong though.

I wish I could find the manual to see how difficult thise jobs would be. I dont really have it in my budget to go to the dealer...

I found a manual and after hours of searching online I have found that this could be caused by air trapped in the system, water pump or head gasket.

      not sure

If the cap is off, they temperature will read higher because the pressure keeps the coolant temp low..

Now that you did the elevated burp, check if the level changes when you squeeze the radiator hoses.
it should pulse up and down as you "pump" the hoses.

The other thing you can try to bleed the system is take the hose off the top of the side of the overflow bottle. and keep it separate from the bottle, and allow that to "overflow" one its own.

You could also try to pull one of the heater hoses and run a hose through it to see if there is a blockage. You didn't have over heating problems before, correct? even though you replaced the thermostat housing, etc?

Where are you at timewise on your timing belt? Maybe do the timing belt, tensioner and seals while you're in there?
