      60K Service Parts Check

First off I would like to state I did a search and I know 60K service threads have been beaten to death but, I did not find one that specifically answers my question.

I plan on having the 60K service done since I purchased the Aveo used at 69K and am unaware if it has been done or not so I rather be safe then sorry. I'm sourcing the parts myself and hope someone cab confirm that these are what I need and if their correctly priced. I plan on purchasing the following parts from Rockauto:

Gates Serpentine Belt, Timing Belt, Idler Pulley, Belt Tensioner, and ACDelco Water pump w/seal. The total shipped is $120. I've heard the 60K takes 4-5hours and I plan on taking it to a shop which charges $40hr. So it should be under $350 for the service, does that sound reasonable?

where do you have a shop that charges $40 an hour?

i would contact your dealer. i think most of the prices i have heard for the timing belt have been @ $375-450 including the parts.. which would be oem instead of aftermarket. Not sure if those prices included the water pump or not. But if your not doing it yourself, its worth the phone call to know what price you are trying to beat by buying parts online and an independent shop.

All the parts except the waterpump are gates which I believe is oem. I'm in oregon and there is a semilocal shop which specialises in timing belt changes. I believe chevy dealer charges 90 an hour but, I'm going to confirm that on Tuesday.

hourly wages only matter based on what their flat rate time is. a shop that charges $90 might only charge 2 flat rate hours, where a shop that charges $40 might charge the 4-5 you've heard it takes. 90x2 < 40x5 its worth it to call for a direct quote, they might be way more.

I see what your saying, thus I'm going to call both places. I do plan on ordering the parts myself as I do know both places charge more for parts.

Thats not bad for just the belt, as it brakes down to 230 labor and $70 for parts but, adding the water pump adds another $115 hour and $85 for the Gates Pump. Looks like you have a good dealer there in NJ as they charge for parts correctly. In my mind I'm pushing for a new water pump at the same time just to be on the safe side. Then I'm going to replace the plastic housing with the metal one. Once I get maintenance out of the way I can continue the mod process.

      Re: 60K Service Parts Check

Got back from the dealer they want to charge 95Hr for 3.6 Hours and $240 in Parts. I can get the parts for half-off if I order them myself but, I'm still looking at $460 which isn't bad for a dealer. The timing belt place is going to charge $200 for labor and I supply the parts which makes it $320 I think this is the route I'm going to go.
