Air filter questions

Hello guys, this is my first post here.I am glad that I finally found a nice Aveo owners forum.

I am starting to modify my 2008 1.2 Aveo hatchback and common sense told me that I should start with a sporty air filter.I went out and bought a Pilot conic air filter which sounds great.The problem though is the tubing.I mounted it on the stock hose with those 2 "ears" and it doesn`t really stay put.It wobbles a little and vibrates.My questions are, can I connect the air filter through a metallic tube?Those "ears" from the stock hose have any role?And what is that little hose connected into the air filter hose right near the throttle body?

Why did you change the original air filter? Works better? Looks better?

It works better, acceleration is better even with A/C on, sounds nice.It can`t work worse than the original that`s for sure.

It looks like you are not going to get any suggestions. Maybe posting some photos would help? Some threads get lots of posts and some none. Why? It's a mystery.

well am not sure about a 2008, but i have a 2009, and it was pretty simply to put in a cone filter, i took the airbox out, and connected a cone filter in the same place the airbox was. sounds greats, and fuel consumption improved.
