Aveo 2005 loud noise when let off gas pedal (with video)

      Hello

The problem with my aveo is that when I go over 40km/h and let off the gas a loud sound starts. then if I accelerate it goes away immediately. (sometimes when I want to speak to a passenger I would accelerate first )

then when I let off the pedal it starts again. and it gets louder at highway speeds.

      any ideas!
      thanks in advance

      Hi Snawfel1983 -

      I got your private message.

This problem sounds odd. Need more information about that noise. Any chance you could post a video?

Sometimes a slipping belt can make a very loud and high pitched squeal. But I haven't heard of a situation where the belt will slip when you let off the gas but not when you're on the gas. And a belt can slip at any road speed (not just over 40 km/h).

I assume you have an automatic transmission?

Did this problem appear suddenly or has it gotten gradually worse?

If gradual, I'm tempted to say this sounds like front wheel bearing(s). When I listen with headphones on, I think the sound is still there while accelerating, it's just quieter. It's a low frequency sound, and appears to be related to road speed, not tied to engine RPM. Also, deceleration puts more load on the front bearings, which would increase the noise.

If you shift into Neutral while decelerating, what happens to the sound? If it's a bearing, the pitch will not change drastially (will remain tied to road speed), but maybe it'll be a little quieter.

If a bearing is worse on one side, steering the car left-right-left-right (like a ski slalom) will change the loudness of the noise as the bearing is loaded & unloaded.

Also, the fact that it's not really audible below 40 km/h (25 mph) is consistent with a bad wheel bearing.

PS: that's just my guess. I'm not a mechanic.

But I've had wheel bearings go bad in several cars.
