Has anyone experienced a momentary loss of power in their vehicle for no apparent reason?
yes. but the check engine light lit up and the throttle body had froze. what else is it doing? is it constantly? certain rpm? we need more details.
Great thanks,
I'll get details from our daughter, thanx
check to make sure the battery terminals are tight, before you really start to diagnose anything.
Thanx,
No reported engine light, it happens intermittently and rpms around 2k? The dealer could not diagnose.
I know that in my friends, his fuel filter was clogged up a little bit so whenever he was asking for the power it just wouldn't really put it out.
Your car has the hiccups, try to sneak up and scare it.
Honestly it's hard to say. the throttle body could be catching or sticking a little bit?
Mine had a stumble at 2k for a long time... I cleaned the throttle body of some kind of residue and it's run fine ever since.
Could be a bad O2 Sensor, clogged fuel filter, sticky throttle body, maybe even the spark plugs... I'd start by changing the spark plugs, and using a fuel system cleaner into your next fill up of gas, see if that fixes it.
This threads kinda old. Wonder if they ever got the problem fixed. I re red my post and decided to be a little lass vauge...
Someone, from one of these boards reccomended I check this, since I was complaining of the same thing...
Take off the intake hose and using your finger, swab around the opening, being careful not to let it get caught on the throttle plate, it opens inward at the top and is spring loaded. If your finger has a blackish residue on it, clean your throttle plate opening. I used an older can of gumout that read 'safe for catalytic converters'. I also used an old tooth brush to get in there good. When I was done the intake was nice and clean, and the throttle plate opened smoothly and closed fully with no sticky spot.
No more hesitation at 2k.
This youtube clip should be a decent guide for what DailyDriverMark is talking about: Quick Tip-Throttle Cleaning - EricTheCarGuy - YouTube
Thanks Aveo5_boy.
I have clean the throttle body. But my car still lose the power at 2k rpm when I drive with
AC actived. But I dont lose the power if I drive without AC.
May someone give me help.
Thanks.
Sorry for my bad English
mourioz,
Have you already contacted Customer Assistance for your region at (021) 8895 5105?

Thanks Chevy Customer SVC for the reply,
I have contacted my region chevy service center, but the mechanic just hook up some kind of computer or detector, and they just said nothing wrong with the car. And they make me upset when they said the car with small cylinder usually will have this losing power problem. I asking them, how about the new aveo, isnt the car will have the same problem cause new aveo just 1,4 cc. The mechanic feel ashamed.
For information, I have changed the fuel filter, the spark, cleaned up throttle body, and still have the losing power drive with AC on when at low rpm under 2k.
Sorry for my bad english.
You can do all the cleaning of throttle bodies, change spark plugs etc. but it will not help with your loss of power. Your mechanic said exactly what I've posted.....he's right and I've had many 4 cylinder's which all lost power with the A/C on. It's normal and that's why you consume more gas with the A/C on.
Thanks Aveo5_boy for the reply,
But my car power's like blank, really blank, even I am hit the gas accelerator more deep, but when the rpm reach above 2k and speedometer reach above 20 kph, the power back again.
Yesterday I almost got crushed cause my car losing the power when I tried to pass the car in front of me.
Sorry for my bad english.
Is this power loss ONLY happening with the A/C on? Completely ok - no power loss at all with A/C off? If not, describe the difference.
And, is this something that only started recently, and has been getting worse as time goes on? Or has it always done this same thing for as long as you've owned it?
Is this an Aveo? What year and mileage on the vehicle? Are you the original owner, and what other maintenance/repairs have been made, beyond what you already mentioned?
Dear avguy,
Yes, my car power loss only happen with AC on, when I want to accelerate, from rpm under 2k and speedometer under 30kph.
My car is Aveo LT hatchback, year: december 2004, speedo reached 99924 (now). I am 2nd owner, just bought this car 2 month ago.
my maintenance is changed spark, cleaned throttle body, changed fuel filter, Fuel system cleaner treatment in fuel tank.
Thanks
There are lots of different reports about A/C impact on MPH and acceleration/power. And, I agree with the previous poster that A/C will always have some effect. But your experience seems to be extreme, which may mean that something is not quite right. I don't have it in mine, but my daughter has a 2006 with A/C, and I will be visiting her over Thanksgiving. You've made me curious about this, so I'm going to check to see what the difference is on her's. I'll probably be the only person north of Arizona running the A/C :laughing5:
Thanks avguy for the help,
I will try another treatment to fix my car, will report to the forum soon if I made it.
Great forum, anyone very helpful.
Thank you.
Dear all my Aveo friends,
Today my Aveo has been successfully repaired. The core problem in the Fuel Pump.
The fuel pump was clogged up of some kind residue. So I replaced it with the new.
Had to check the fuel filter as well, because it deals with fuel pump.
Now my Aveo running well, no more losing power.
@Avguy: you dont have to become the only person North of Arizone running with A/C :D, thanks for your help.
Great forum.
Thank you.

Thank you Mourioz for posting your outcome and the fix for this problem!!! This is the way these forums work best, and you have potentially helped everyone somewhere down the road who reads this thread. For me, this has now become another thing on my list of usual suspects for similar problems.
And yes it's disappointing, because I was really looking forward to running the A/C in my Daughter's Aveo with an outside air temp of 35F:joker:
