can do that too, but most likely the brake lights are not working as well, so driving may be a bad ideal (ask me after having the same problem and paying a $130 ticket for it lol)
it sounds relatively easy to fix and i found a guide.
How to change a brake light switch, Chevy Aveo
hope it helps!
and don't go to the dealer, they want $300 or so to do it lol
It is more than likely the brake light switch. I just changed out one on our 2008 Aveo LT. Got the last one at my local Autozone for $8.99. It is a relatively easy change out but you will need a small flashlight or even a headlamp would be best. Move the driver's seat as far back as possible to allow you room to get on your back to look up under the dashboard follow the brake pedal up you'll see a white electrical connector. First thing you need to do is feel around toward the top near the wires and you'll be able to push the release latch then wiggle out the electrical connector. Then what you need to do is get your hand on the switch and twist about a quarter turn it'll come right out. To put the new one in the depress the brake pedal push in the new switch turn a quarter turn but make sure you turn the correct way to match up to the connector and push/pull on the connector. You're all done. Now test the brakes.
