Well my apologies Andrew, I actually thought you were pulling my leg. I had no idea there was only one fan in the engine bay, being the radiator fan, so it was my ignorance that got the best of me.
Ok well I tested for that, and my radiator fan doesn't go on when I switch the mode to defrost. There is no issue with the radiator fan because it does go on when the engine gets hot and it doesn't make that stupid noise that I'm hearing when I switch to defrost. I understand that I could be hearing it differently because when the defrost is on the ducts are opening from the engine bay to the cabin, so it may sound different, but all the same its still not turning on when I switch to defrost. I can hear a fan click on, it's like near where the condenser is in the engine bay, but I don't see anything. You are probably right about it just having one fan, no contest there (mind you I'm an amateur, so anyone on this forum would know better than I would, I'm just speaking from an observational point of view) but then what is that I'm hearing then?
the blower motor is completely fine, the ducts are cleared, and there is only one fan in the engine bay that's the radiator fan which is not even the one, so what the hell is clicking on and making the sound of a faulty fan? I'm so annoyed at this point that I'm debating disassembling the entire dash...help me :'( please help me, I'm noob :'(
Maybe I can take a video and show you guys.

Ok. That's ok that you honestly didn't know. People are often quick to steer people in the wrong direction so I understand your skepticism.
I almost always get a second opinion from my dad before I do anything, even if I already know what he would do (he was a mechanic for years, and still does his own work and helps me) from what he taught me just to be safe. Not to mention taking my own research and common sense into play.
That sound boggles my mind...
I can hear the compressor kick in and it sounds exactly like mine does. That's a perfectly normal clutch engaging sound. As far as the clicking noise I'm wondering if it's the compressor itself, or perhaps another pulley? The compressor slows down the engine RPM's slightly when at Idle so it might be spinning at just the right speed coupled with the vibration from the compressor and that's what's causing either the compressor itself or something else to make the ticking sound.
Does it do it when just the A/C is on, or does it only do it when it's on defrost and the compressor runs? If it does it both times, that would completely eliminate something inside the dash causing it.
I'm hoping someone else here will chime in that knows what that sound is. I'm leaning towards the compressor itself as I said above, but then again vibration can cause all kinds of weird things.
Thoroughly confused on this one...
Edit: How cold is it there? I saw you were wearing flops, but that doesn't mean you didn't just run outside. lol
When it's below freezing and I do a cold start my lifters chatter for about 30 seconds until the engine temp comes up slightly and it stops. I don't think that's related to this, but you never know.

It's not too cold, it's just above freezing, but don't be fooled by the flipflops, Canadians are weird people I tell you.
Besides that, even when the engine is hot and I've been on the road for a while, the noise is still there. An interesting input though: turning on the A/C does not make the same sound, it is ONLY the defrost that makes that noise. I'm glad you could hear it, I was worried the sound wouldn't make it through my crappy phone. Indeed, I'm buggled with this sound as well, honestly, no words could described how annoyed I am by this, it probably seems like such a small thing to most people but its like nails on a blackboard to my OCD.
EDIT: another input, I remember this past summer, that the A/C was struggling to cool the cabin. There was definitely cold air coming out, but it wasn't enough. Mind you it may have just been the heat, because this summer we had some really hot days. Also, it may just be that the freon needs refilling, I haven't checked the pressure since.

Hey anyone have any input on this? I highly prefer this thread doesn't die :P
