      camshaft position sensor

My wife ownes an 2009 aveo5 LT. She lost power and the engine light came on. took it to advance auto, hooked it up to computer and they said it was camshaft position sensor. When i look them up on Rockauto, it shows two of them. one says intake(it was cheaper), and the other says exhaust. i found them on the engine but i don't know which one is which. they are both on the right side of the engine, very easy to get to. just need to know if the one in the front is intake or not. you would think that the front is intake and the rear is exhaust but i want to know for sure. thanks in advance. Tim.

The exhaust goes out the front of the car and the intake is the rear of the car. From this handy diagram I found, you can see the intake on the left and therefore exhaust on the right (view from the right side of the car).

Couple of things, you should know if it's the intake cam or the exhaust cam by the code. What's the code?

I have a 2006 Aveo and that's a different engine, so I don't hands on experience on the 2009+ engines. So I have to use my basic understanding of how engines work in order to help you. So I do basic research in order to answer your questions. Here is a picture of a 2009 engine. Does your engine look like this?

From the passenger side of the car (north America) the intake cam is the left side (rear) and the exhaust cam is the right hand side (front). So I answered that question. Of course everybody knows the exhaust port is right above the main port and only two meters wide.

I did an image search for camshaft sensor and I got a lot of unreliable crap. So I just pointed out where the intake and exhaust sides, hoping that the associated sensor is on that side. So if you had found them on the engine, maybe taking a picture of your engine would help us help you.

Since just about everybody has smart phones, I encourage you to buy this: Amazon.com: Newest Bluetooth V1.5 OBD2 OBD II Auto Diagnostic Scanner Mini Adapter: Automotive

that way you can get the engine codes on your phone and then you can be one step ahead in the DIY car repair

We have the same car. This sounds like the same problem:

Hey guys so I have the code P0341 I'm at 121000km I am experiencing a rough idle and loss of power. If feel like it takes a long time for me to get up to speed , kinda like it's delayed. And input ?
