Car dies when gas is applied

My sons Aveo will start, rev up and sounds fine at idle.
When you put in gear it will creap along, but when the accelerator is applied is sputters and dies.
Fuel Pump or Fuel filter problem?
      Anyone got advice?
Also how do you service it if it is a fuel pump-filter problem?
      Thanks
      Mike

pump and filter lift out through an access I think.

but check for pressure at the rail, to see if it drops.

Any codes? this could be o2 sensor, map (not likely) or a few other things even though the fuel pump is most likely.

      auto or manual?

check for pressure at what rail?
      Thanks

This happened with my 06 Aveo5 SVP... It turned out to be an O2 Sensor, got the code and everything then one day I just gave the tires a good whirl, light went away, code went away, and I haven't had the problem for about 4 months.
Laugh now, fly later... Damn it feels good to be a Taylor!

i would have to look honestly but under the seat sounds right..

the pressure at the rail, there is a fitting on the rail that you can put a pressure gauge on, and you start run the car, and see if the pressure drops. if it does not, then the problem is elsewhere.

if you have no codes, the issue could be a few things, but most (even low fuel pressure) will throw a light.
