On Saturday my brother and I did some maintenance on my wife's 2008 Aveo5. Front rotors/pads, new thermostat housing, spark plugs, and spark plug wires. I noticed there was some oil on top of some of the spark plugs, so thought no big deal I'll change the gasket this week. While I was doing the brakes my brother changed the wires and got them out of order so when the car was turned out it was misfiring.
Now, what comes next is pure stupidity and I realize it now.
I drove it around the block once. It kept misfiring, seemed to be OK above 3K RPM, and I parked it. Check connections etc, could not figure out why it was doing so. Tried to drive it to the local dealership and it died. I then had it towed and went home. It then dawned on me the wires were probably wrong, so drove back to the dealership. They had not worked on it yet so I changed the wires to the correct position and the car started up and seemed to drive completely fine out of the dealership. No misfiring, no issues, nothing. Roughly 1/4-1/2 a mile away from the dealership it just dies. It will try to start and won't, and if it does start it dies instantly. I then had it towed back to the dealership as clearly this was past my car knowledge long ago.
While I wait for the quote and damage assessment, I'm curious if anyone can speculate on what they think it might be?
