      CEL

      Hello,

This is my first post (I've spent a while being silent and just browsing), I recently purchased a 2004 Suzuki Swift in July and as of today there is 69,000 kms on it. The check engine light just went on, and I was wondering if they came on every while for no reason, or if there is definetly something wrong with it. I dont have time to go to the dealer for about a week so this is why I'm making this post. I know with my dad's 2005 civic, the cel comes on roughly every 10,000kms for no reason and that he has to reset it by pressing the brake and turning the ignition on and off 3 times, so I'm wondering if this is the same situation (there is nothing wrong with the way it was driving today, did not feel any different).

CEL codes do not get thrown just because. There is something that happened to set it off. Take it to an auto parts store and they can check it for free. It takes less time than getting gas.

      Re: CEL

I didn't know where to post my question. :P When I'm pushing the gas the rpm gauge reacts with some delay. Everybody have that delay in rpm?
And so far as the CEL goes the reason could be bad fuel and thus engine detonation. That normally happens when using lower octane fuel. But whether the light can come on for no reason I dunnow.

Most slightly its due to the 2nd O2 sensor. Is your cat still there?

That is due to the drive-by-wire. Google it if you do not know what it means.

These cars are meant to take the lowest grade of gasoline so it cant be that. Now if the cap was not closed all the way, it would throw a code.

      Re: CEL

Thanks for answering my question, I'll google the hell out of it. Now for the CEL. Translating from Russian my manual says 'use gasoline with octane number not less than 95'. And so far as I know that check engine light problem is almost guaranteed when u try to use cheaper regular 92 gasoline.
And they say on Russian aveoclub forum there is a small part under the hood that says '95' on it that should be removed to use regular fuel. But there is still a lot of discussion on its purpose. :P

      Re: CEL

There is a difference in octane ratings with different countries. Russia 95 could be USA 87 or even USA 103! Ya never know when messing with conversions sometimes

      try disconeecting ur battery overnight.

after u disconnect battery hold brake pedal for 10-15 seconds to totally drain any leftover juice.
