Do you have any manuals showing engine cooling fan circuit?
I think it might be related to that.
Thanks

ENGINE COOLING MOTOR RESISTOR.
Finally got it.
the PCM provides a 5 Volt reference Signal that runs through all of the Sensors that do not have their own power source. the sensors then change the Reference Signal according to what they do. that changed signal then Goes BACK to the PCM and is processed as the reading for a paticular sensor.
that ceramic resistor is for the radiator fan speed, it controls the speed on the radiator fan so its very important regardless that you have AC or not, i would not disconect it or otherwise, if its coroded and broken i'd replace it its only 24 bux at the dealer, and also will make your check engine come on due to low/poor voltage circulation , hope this helps
I'm going to guess AC clutch ballast resistor. There is a ceramic one on my 08 Aveo SV that the prev owner had his mechanic bypass it when his ac wouldn't work; or so he told me Unfortunately I am scouring AD and I can't find any reference to this.
HTHY
well that's interesting because my 2008 aveo5 SV has that same resistor, and did not come with A/C? The resistor is also on the wrong side of the car...

2008 Aveo5 SV
I will think of a better signature later.
94812213 That is the oem part #. Its a radiator fan ballast resistor. They have two speeds on the fan on the radiator. I had to hunt like heck to find out what it is. On the wire diagram it shows up. The ECM controls it. I have noticed my fan not spinning fast and thought it was going bad. Mine at last cracked and burned out. Car still cools just fine but am going to replace it. Its 17.00 on Amazon. This has drove me nuts also and I also was hoping this was the daylight running lights. Its not. Those dam things still working but not after this weekend. LOL>

here is a diagram showing that mistery ballast under the battery. Low speed for the radiator. Thats just stupid.....[/QUOTE]
It's for your cooling fan, comes from pin 87 of the low cooling fan relay and then to the cooling fan.
I have the 2005 manual and that page is labeled wrong, it doesn't include the 1.6 liter which has the resistor also.

Following the wire from the ceramic fuse i come to the conclusion it's for the fan. Yes the fan is 12v but it is also a 2 speed fan, so the ceramic fuse drops 12v down to 5v to change the fan speed.
