      Check engine Light came on?

I was starting my car in the parking lot last night and my check engine light came on, I know it's a stupid question but just wondering what it could be ,any regular problems that would make the light come on? Thks I have a Aveo 2006 ls.

Did you check your gas cap to see if it's on all the way? It could be something as simple as that.

Amazon.com: U380 OBDII Check Engine Auto Scanner Trouble Code Reader: Automotive
Go buy a scan tool. This is a cheap example that will allow you to get the code off your car. That information is priceless. From there we can help you much more efficiently. Even if it's crappy tool, at least we can get the code and help. Otherwise I would agree with Tx Bandit check your gas cap.
Please do not power off, firmware update pending.....

You need to have the code scanned to know what it was. It may still be stored in the computer even though the light is now off.

Some parts stores will scan for codes, no charge. I think AutoZone & AAP do, NAPA maybe. (Assuming you're in the US.)
