Get your check engine light checked, anyone with a Scan Gauge can read/clear the code for you - if you don't know anyone with one, any mechanic should be able to find out what the code is, which should help troubleshoot the problem!
I got a check engine light come on today, turns out to be code P0128 which is coolant/thermostat related - I changed the thermostat not long ago, so it might be one of the sensors. Gotta love cars....
edit: oh and, good luck with yours !
edit 2: nice wheels
a flashing light means misfire. this mean coil pack, wires or plugs most likely. after taking off the wire cover on the valve cover, start the car in the shade/dark and mist those parts with a spray bottle with water and look for sparks..
if no sparks youll need more tools. to verify each cylinder is firing, a scanner would probably narrow it down to which cylinder.
Yea I have a scan gauge but my gauge says no codes read! Or can't detect nothing...compliments of aveoforum for the scan gauge =-)
is the light not staying on after it flashes?
It goes away after a while or after I turn off the car
I had this problem in my Saturn, I know their different cars but it might relate, and I do have an Aveo5, and have a friend with one that had these two exact same problems my Saturn did!
The first time I had this issue, it was during mis-fire, and that was causing the sputtering.
The second time I had this problem, the timing belt tore into pieces and I put the rod through my engine.
I'd refrain from driving it.. The less the better. Check your timing belt, then look at the plugs and the wires. The timing belt isn't that expensive and if you have over 80,000KM I'd do it now just as a safety precaution.
A flashing check engine line 99% of the time means a misfire is occurring..
it flashed for your timing belt because the engine was misfiring, because there was a hole in it.
Ok so the long and short. I stupidly negelected my serpetine belt and guess what it broke but not only did it break it broke so violently it cracked the timing case and you can guess what happened next. so i had 8 valves bent but intstead of fixing the valve i found a pretty lowmilage engine from a local place for alot cheaper then fixing the valves. I work for a truck repair shop and surprise surprise they are not so good with cars. they replaced the engine and all was good for maybe a month then the check engine started flashing, they found oil in the spark plugs so we replaced the gasket twice. they "fixed" it which im thinking they just cleared the codes because the check engine started flashing again and now the oil light comes on when i come to a stop. any suggestion?
the engine doesnt seem to be skipping or acting sluggish
Sounds like a sensor, most of the time, people will have issues when they swap engines like this (the dealership has to reset something...) Rabbit can help me here
