I also have a 2009. The clock is a piece of crap. (So are a few other things on this cheap car.)
I bought the car new. The dealer replaced the clock when it went berserk, before the warranty ran out. Then I replaced it with an aftermarket, 12v backlit digital clock. That one lasted about two years and then it died. Then I bought two more clock modules on eBay that didn't work at all from the day I received them. I just now ordered another one. Cheap Asian trash electronics. Unfortunately there is no reliable digital clock replacement available at any price.
Use your wristwatch. Or install a sundial on your dashboard.

Search the forum (top of page) for "Clock Repair" there are good detailed photos of where/what to solder. See: https://www.aveoforum.com/forum/f76/...o-clock-21350/

Here's an update. Soon thereafter I bought the third generic clock module on eBay, and this one has been working since then. Here's a photo of it. These are easy to install, and you don't even need to disconnect the original crappy clock. The funny looking thing on top of it is a sunshade I made and attached to it so I can see the display in bright sun. The pigtail wire leading from it has a tiny switch attached to it that sets and programs the module that comes with the unit. It's 24H military time, but at least it's a clock that works.
