Question Clunking comes from front end

I have a 2006 Chevy Aveo that has some clunking coming from the front end. It's also manual transmission. It only happens when its out of gear and gets loud she I'm turning.
I recently did the front breaks and I noticed the shaft that's connected to the wheels that go into the transfer case have a bit of play. (not sure the name of the part but I know it's what turns the front tires).
When I push and pull on them it seems like the sound I'm hearing when I am driving.
I checked all the other connections to the wheel hubs and frame and everything else seems to be tight and connected well.
Can anyone recommend what I do and possibly help me diagnose the problem?
      Ty

Does it clunk over bumps, or only when turning? When turning, is it a single clunk or a repeated clunk clunk clunk as you turn?

It's a repeated clunk clunk clunk. It does do it over bumps but it doesn't seem as loud as when turning. I just drove my girlfriend to work and I also noticed that when I let off the gas a bit and let the engine slow down the car it also does it. Also seems like even if there are no bumps it'll still clunk but a lot quieter.
Also I was wondering if you happen to know about the transmission or clutch too?
In gears 1-3 no matter how slowly I release the clutch, there's a slight thud as it goes into gear or as the clutch engages. Could it possibly be because the manual transmission fluid needs to be changed?

Actually sounds more like a popping kinda clunk.. The front end that is.

From your description, it sounds to me like a CV joint issue. I'd take care of this issue first to see if it affects the thud issue you're having while releasing the clutch.
