      "creaky" suspension?

Driving slow, in town, I hear alot of noise from what I think is the suspension. (I'm not a gear head, but I'm not car illiterate either.) It sounds almost squeaky. Are there grease points to lube up? I have also heard from a few other Aveo sites that this is common.

Might be easy to locate: have someone bounce the car while you nose around it. You might be able to identify which corner by yourself, too.

Could be bushings - wouldn't hurt to squirt them with a lubricant. I once had an elusive suspension squeak that drove me nuts, and it turned out to be a rear spring moving very slightly where it was seated when compressed a lot. A shot of oil fixed it.

I've tried that, to no avail. It only really does it when I am leaving a driveway, so I guess a small change in inclination. However, I do also notice it when driving on uneven pavement, just not at every bump.

      Thanks for the help.

aveo's have a floating front suspension, so check the upper mounts for flex,

also its been common for a arm bushing to fail, which would cause a clunk as well.

My Aveo makes the same horrible groans on uneven surfaces. I think it's a slight suspension defect that they all have. It sounds really bad, but from what I've read on other sites, no one has had success in fixing it yet, or getting the dealer to repair it under warranty.

What do you mean by "floating" front suspension?

the top of the struts are not actually attached to the car, the float there.

its a design vw has used since the mid 80s, but many "domestic" mechanics cannot diagnose it. As the bushings wear, the suspension deflects more and you get a clunk when the top of the strut hits the wheel well,

My creaking was from the sway bar bushing being dry. Lubed them with some spray oil and they have been quite all winter. Now they need another soaking.

the sway bar is very likely too, i would think that would come from your feet more that front though? or does it just come through the firewall?
