you could just install a switch where the 10amp obd fuse goes with a fuse in-line of course. it may even act as a kill switch, cuz when i disconnected the on star module it would not start anymore. this way you can still use the on star, (as if anyone really uses that) lol..... good luck guys....

That could be because the dealer told me those systems on that fuse run in a loop. That is why they cut just the power wires to the OnStar instead of just unplugging it.

My customer just opted to pull the obd fuse & leave it out at this point. I too had narrowed it down to the red/white wire but the customer was afraid the bill was going to get too big so he said just stop where you are. Glad to know where to look next time altho I'd rather there not be one. If gm knows there's a problem this is a good as any recall.

Resurrecting thread to chime in. 2009 Aveo5 Manual with this issue. Would pull about 1.2a. Pulled OBD fuse and draw went away. I didn't use my OnStar anyways so I just chopped the wires and it works flawlessly. No more jump starts!

I have an interesting issue at the moment.

My car started acting strange on start, it would take a little longer each time and sound like it was struggling to start.
Next day it just went click when i tried to start it.

I jump started it and got it home.
Ordered a new battery and installed same day, starting 100%. (conclusion, my 3 year old battery died) or so i thought.

yesterday, my car would not start, click click click, jump started it and its fine.

new battery is 5 days old and sitting at 10v.

but when the car is running its at 15v, (altenator is working)
checked current draw from negative terminal to clamp. =50mA (seems normal)

i need my car sorted now, so i took it to an autoelectrician today, he says i may just have another faulty battery, he is going to put his battery in my car and slow charge my battery over night and see if it takes the charge.

was i meant to trickle charge my new battery when i got it? i dunno, maybe having a new faulty battery is in the realm of possibilities.

EDIT: autoelec didnt charge me anything yay -> he said i have a faulty battery, it happens.
i jump started my car and drove to the supplier and took the battery out in the parking lot and dumped it on his desk. He replaced it, no charge. and i put the new one in and drove home.

ive been monitoring the battery level. its sitting around 12,65V since i put it in.

supplier said they get a bad battery one in five hundred or so.

Very helpful, thanks for sharing. my Onstar on 2011 was causing the 10A fuse to blow. Well, now I took the two wires that you have mentioned and reconnect the white and yellow harness and the fuse was fine. My issue was different which I can't connect the OBD reader and get the codes so this helps. I have read in a different thread that we can disconnect the yellow and purple wires from both yellow and white harness but I haven't tired that since your method served the purpose. I don't know what is exactly functioning in the Onstar but will update when I find out. Thanks again for sharing your experience.
One more thing, other mentioned that the car won't start without the module. I am trying to get the car started but so far, the OBD codes won't read until the module is connected.
