      eratic oil level readings

so this morning check oil level of the 07 aveo(sitting all nite) down 1.5 quartes WTF.dont see any leaks?so add 1.5 quartes, drive around the court, stop, turn key off, check oil, reads 1.5 quartes over,WTF. so up on ramps drain

1.5 quartes of oil. any1 expierence eratic oil readings with the 1.6l engine possible causes?oil filter drainback valve, oil sending unit, blocked oil ports? i would think after it sitting all night long all oil would have drained into pan.

      might be the dipstick

This is an old complaint with me. The dipsticks (both oil and transmission) on my 2005 LS are frustratingly hard to read. Many has been the time when I was left wondering what the actual readings were. Good luck.

it does not take much grade to read wrong in either direction. i suggest going to pearl vision (one of the hour glasses places) and after ward go to one of those drive through oil change places :P

when you said you checked it first thing in the morning after the car sat overnight, maybe let the car wram up and then check the level. I know that would give it a false reading, whether it gives a false negative or positive im unsure.
