Fix - PKLP RH Fuse Blowing / No Gurage Cluster Lights / No Right Tail Light

Hopefully this helps someone as there was no definitive answer to multiple posts over the years that I searched for relating to this specific electrical issue ONLY regarding the 2009-2011 Aveo (T250). Many pointed to a S101 splicer pack that burns up under the fuse box, but this only effects the 2002-2008 (T200) model years.

      ISSUE:
The 10-amp PKLP RH fuse under the hood blows as soon as the headlights or side light markers are turned on.

      SYMPTOMS:
No interior gauge cluster lights, right side rear tail lamp does not work, right side front side marker does not illuminate.

      FIX:
Replace the instrument panel dimmer switch (OEM part number(s) 95216065 / 96652255). I’d recommend the aftermarket part from Standard Motor Products – part number DS2287 as the OEM unit looks like it fails after several years of use based on my disassembly.

      Side notes:
Rockauto currently has this part for $37, but it’s not listed as compatible for the 2009-2011 Aveo. I’ve confirmed it is and it can be found if you search manually or use Google. Just venting here, but these cars are plagued with electrical issues and after looking through all the wiring diagrams it’s obvious cost cutting was #1 priority. An interior dimmer switch should not be tied into the same circuit that controls exterior lighting let alone fail in a state that blows a fuse.

You definitely helped me. And I signed up to this forum mainly to say thanks. I've been having lots of issues with my 2009 Aveo5 LT lately. And it was an awesome feeling to finally be able to fix at least one of my biggest issues myself. And inexpensively at that. Thanks so much for sharing this fix!

You're welcome, I made an account to tell others. The problem was so bizarre, I couldn't believe no one was mentioning it.

I bought the car to giveaway to a college student so I only had it for 2 months fixing everything. I took some pictures shortly after teaching her how to drive a manual, it's still out there somewhere.

Nice pics! One of the cleanest Aveos I've seen. Thanks again.
